Jimenez Hammered on Saturday

Ubaldo Jimenez gave up six runs in less than four innings during another difficult start this spring. He was tagged with a lead-off homer from Brandon Phillips as the Indians lost to the Reds, 9-2.

Manny Acta summed up the outing by saying:

Ubaldo had very little command of anything…It took him 80-some pitches to get three-plus innings. He’s just not making pitches. Hopefully it is out of him.

After the game it sounded like Ubaldo wasn’t concerned with the poor showing:

I had a good changeup, threw some good sliders…As a pitcher, you don’t want to let anybody score, but you are trying to work on your pitches…I am trying to be more consistent. Hopefully, they are scoring all their runs here…I never seem to do well in spring training…Last year, I got hurt. I just want to get out of here healthy this year.

I wish Ubaldo well and hope he gets straightened out. I am also glad that the Rockies did not hang onto Kevin Slowey who they also traded to the Indians.

Slowey’s 2012 spring stats so far:

W L ERA G GS IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG WHIP
0 2 5.63 3 3 8.0 14 5 5 2 1 3 .359 1.88

Geez, I’m just not sure Ubaldo will ever find his game again. This trade could really turn out huge for us.
