The Los Angeles Dodgers and their New York-style payroll sit 3 games away from elimination in the National League playoff race. The Colorado Rockies are eager to handle 2 of those, as they face Los Angeles for two final 2012 games at Dodger Stadium in Chavez Ravine. The Rockies send right-hander Tyler Chatwood (5-5, 5.49) to the hill tonight at 7:10 against Joe Blanton (9-13, 4.86), also a righty. Chatwood has really been “not too bad” for Colorado, working into the fifth as often as anybody. He went 5 2/3 and got the win Monday versus the Diamondbacks, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. Blanton is
1-4/5.57 in 9 starts for LA since coming to the Dodgers from Philadephia in late May. He hasn’t been out since September 21 when he also pitched 5 2/3 innings for no decision in a Los Angeles victory over the Reds.
Amid speculation about his job status and how he really feels about it, MFL Jim Tracy is going with that lineup that has Josh Rutledge leading-off, Jordan Pacheco hitting 3rd, and Wilin Rosario cleaning-up. Don Mattingly has Nick Punto batting 1st at second base. Andre Ethier hits 2nd, Shane Victorino 6th.
It’ll be a lovely evening at the Stadium, sunny skies and a game-time temperature of 78° with 45% relative humidity. Wind will blow across the field from 3rd to 1st for the first several innings, then shift around to blowing in from left as night falls. The game is not televised tonight, but Jerry and Jack are on KOA 850 am.
