TONIGHT: The Rockies will play the first game of this 4-game road series against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park. Tonight’s game is the fourth contest on a 7-game road trip at SD (1-2, 9/14-16) and at SF (9/17-20). In a back-and-forth contest yesterday, the Rockies were defeated by the Padres 12-11 on a walk-off single in the 9th inning from Yonder Alonso. Yesterday’s game included the Rockies taking a 5-1 lead followed by an 8-run 5th inning from the Padres to take an 11-5 lead. The Rockies then tied the game in the 8th with a 6-run frame that included a grand slam from Josh Rutledge. The loss gave Colorado a fourth-straight series loss. The Rockies are currently in a stretch during which the club will play 14-of-17 games on the road from 9/3-20 (3-10) Colorado has just seven home games remaining in 2012. Additionally, the Rockies will finish the 2012 season with 20 games in 20 days from 9/14-10/3 (1-2). The Rockies are also in a stretch of 14-straight games vs. NL West opponents from 9/10-24 (2-4). Colorado is 21-31 vs. NL West opponents in 2012.
- 24-year-old right-hander Jhoulys Chacin will make his 11th start of 2012 tonight. Tonight will be Chacin’s fourth career start against the Giants at AT&T Park. Chacin owns a 2-1 record with a 1.35 ERA (20.0 ip, 3 er) in his three outings at the venue.
- 23-year-old left-hander Madison Bumgarner will make his 30th start of 2012 tonight. Bumgarner is 8-3 with a 2.39 ERA (94.1 ip, 25 er) in 13 starts at AT&T Park this season.
VS. GIANTS: This 4-game series will wrap up the 2012 season series between the Rockies and Giants. The Giants have already clinched the season-series against the Rockies thanks to going 2-7 at Coors Field this season. The Rockies are 2-3 at AT&T Park in 2012, and the club is looking for their first winning record in a season at the Giants home since the 2008 Rockies went 6-3 at AT&T Park.
