Manship???
Jeff Manship has been the Sky Sox best pitcher the last two+ months. Last two outings – 15 innings/10 hits/2 earned runs/1 walk/14 k’s. Not flashy, but just seems to get it done. Good luck Jeff, hope you stick around up there. God knows the Rocks need it.
HAHA. If this wasn’t my team I’d be laughing at how pathetic they are. To not even be able to find a tying run out there somewhere for 5 innings is pretty bad. I have a feeling the management of this team will not be looking for wins, ie they will not play smart baseball like bunting or sacrificing. They’ll simply give every hitter the “swing away” and see what happens. I’ll be shocked if we win 20 more games… Read more »
This season’s gone from “a day game!-hopefully I can see a little bit of it between meetings!” to “we’re playing right now-I guess I’ll get some work done”…
I’m going to be gone for 9 to 10 days beginning on Sunday. Guess I’m going to be the lucky one.
nah … same as it ever was Bill. I was off for almost 2 months and really didn’t miss a thing. Same play by the Rockies. Similar comments by the fans. In fact, if you read some of the comments of late, and go back to last season or even back to ITR you will see pretty much the same complaints. Maybe not the exact same verbage but darn close.
“Wow, we’ve got a Sky Sox lineup today”. I didn’t say that, but Nolan Arenado did when he saw the lineup card posted in the dugout according the DP story after the game. Also one of the people commenting related an answer Dick Monfort told him when he said he was thinking of not renewing his tickets. I’ve think I’ve seen the answer before so either Monfort tells everybody this or the story was told before but for an owner… Read more »
Should we be surprised by the outcome of today’s game? The starting lineup had 6 players that started the season in the minors and two (Herrera & Torry) that are non-regulars. In essence this game was between the NY Mets and the Rox AAAA team. Everyday I think this organization has stooped to its lowest point in their history, but everyday they seem to go one rung lower.
This is from a post on the DP website by a guy who emailed Monfort to say he isn’t going to renew his season tickets: Monfort – “I think you should forgo your season tickets, because you aren’t a fan you are fair weather if things are good you are in, when we struggle you are only threats.” Those were the exact words because I cut them from the email he sent me. Much of what is wrong with management… Read more »
The Mets and the Rockies are a tale of two coaching staffs I’m afraid. One has his less than talented team playing energetic baseball and the other staff has his team looking like a bunch of turds.
I can’t believe Cuddyer, Betencourt, Belisle, De La Rosa, Ottavino, and Yorvit are still on this baseball team!!
I gotta see if there’s a Root replay of this one. I would’ve DVR’d it had I known that Walt was throwing out this historically awful lineup. What better day to rest up Tulo and Dex and Rosario and Helton? You’re throwing out a new emergency starter callup anyway so we might as well give up and run back home. Same logic applies to last night; no way we were going to score any runs off Matt Harvey so why… Read more »
Always been a big Dante Bichette fan, still am. However, he has to go. At least put him in a new role. Maybe 1B coach, Rene as bench coach, put TR somewhere. Or not. Maybe Walker can coach hitters if you want another year of nostalgia. I’d prefer a year of good baseball. Man, I HATE seeing my season end on my birthday week. Love the Broncos, but it’s not their time yet. Or maybe it is. Until changes are… Read more »
Hey, happy birthday Iggy. Is that a reference to Iggy Pop? No offense, but we’ve gotta get over this idea that we have a really good offensive team that somehow is underperforming. The answer is “they’re not very good.” NL team hitting by various measures (not fair to compare the AL because the DH instead of pitchers hitting makes a big difference): Runs Created + (park adjusted, one of the better overall measures): 13th out of 15 teams. 88 RC+,… Read more »
Jonathan Gray, 2nd Modesto start: 5 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 7 K. Second straight dominant performance. They’ll probably shut him down pretty soon, but he certainly looks destined to start next season at Tulsa — my dream of a June 2014 Coors arrival might not be crazy after all. [fingers crossed]
As a team they’re a horrible offense. But Ag are you telling us that Fowler, Rosario, Tulo, Cargo, Cuddyer are all below average offensive players? That 5 of 8 starters that from the plate should be as good or better than most CF, C, SS, LF, RF respectively. What happened to Fowler and Rosario between April and now? No one expects Fowler to hit 8 HRs per month, but he’s completely disappeared. He doesn’t even get 2B or 3Bs like… Read more »
I’m kind of surprised no one has brought up 2007 after this 1-9 road trip. Everyone think that was an anomaly and can’t be done again? Wasn’t 2007 the last time they went 1-9 on the road?
Mike, The 2007 Rox were actually a couple games over towards the end of the season. Then they went on a 14 of 15 run, if I recall correctly, to make the playoffs. In over 100 years of professional baseball no team has ever gone on a 14 of 15 run to make the playoffs. No, I don’t think it’s going to happen this year. I have not run the actual numbers, but I would guess the Rox record this… Read more »
I’m not saying DoD is a complete idiot, he’s not. He’s probably pretty smart. And he has done some very good things, e.g. Trade for Cargo, the Humidor, etc.
But I fear he has encountered the Peter Principal.
Hey Trip, the reason I mentioned the 2007 Rockies is because I believe they have only gone 1-9 one other time and that was when they made the playoffs in 2007. I think they went on a 21 or 22 game run.
I have stuck up for Mr. O’Dowd in the past. It wouldn’t surprise me if he is out though after this season.
Yeah, I figured as much. I think the 21 of 22 included the playoff run before the world series.
Unfortunately it would not surprise me if BiB DoD returns again next year. I can not believe hes still here.
So I end up reading mostly on this site- because almost everyone here feels the same way I do and I don’t feel like adding additional posts just to be heard. But now- I think it is best to summarize the current thoughts before I head down to the Pirates game tonight, and drink my sorrows away. The team is not as good as people think it is. Whether it is our “stars” underperforming in the clutch or the abundance… Read more »
Right on, Mike in FTC. I do hold out hope for Arenado and LeMaheu being keepers as well.
