Let’s Steal Game 3 Tomorrow

Up against a character – Johnny Cueto.

Cool Breeze Cueto

Pittsburgh, Boston, and San Fran consecutively is no easy task. The guys fought today. Estevez got a real introduction to the Majors.

We have Rusin tomorrow. I “think” he’ll throw strikes and work quickly. Both team’s Pens are a little worn, but we should have Castro, Motte, and McGee ready. If we could somehow steal the game, then the schedule Gods finally give us a favor and send Cincinnati our way for 4.

On the patience theme: Tyler Matzek — baby steps, but no BB in his last 6 appearances working at Modesto as a one-out lefthanded specialist. If he manages to fight through this again the Rockies deserve some kind of award. On the lack of patience theme: anyone notice that Pomeranz and Friedrich are now the big 1-2 lefty starter punch for the Padres?

Carp, that’s one of the “problems” with this team being surprisingly competitive so far — there will likely be big Monfort resistance to doing the smart thing and trading Cargo. I agree that the Red Sox would be a great fit, and they still have young talent to trade for him. (By the way, they might like a McGee too. Probably not a De La Rosa unfortunately.). And I say this not because I’m down on the Rockies future; to… Read more »

Sunday Optimism Post: 2018 projected lineup (Ringolsby and BA used to do this type of thing when they did their prospect lists; interesting to see how wrong they are in general when you look back at those, but hey, it’s fun to dream): C Murphy/Wolters 1B ? But first base is typically the easiest position to fill (see Morneau, Reynolds – both adequate or better cheap free agent signings). And McMahon is a possibility if he starts adjusting to higher… Read more »

I really, really want to snag a game today. The DP mentioned that the Rockies are playing .500 ball since they began a “murderous” portion of schedule in May. If they steal a game today, then they can actually have some swagger and hang around .500. I’ve already raised their bar – finish third! Arizona is a complete bust like SD last year now that Shelby Miller and Rubby DLR are on the DL and Robbie Ray is regressing considerably.… Read more »

And Parra gives away another run, trying to advance to 3B on a fairly short fly ball. Out at 3B, and Story follows with what becomes a solo HR. Right now I’d have to say Walt needs to institute a rule: station-to-station baseball only. It wasn’t an idiotic move — it was making the 2nd out at 3B, not the first out, and the bottom part of the lineup was up — but still, the risk/reward thing says don’t go… Read more »

Only 4 on bench and only 4th inning. Besides Rusin is a better hitter than Descalso and Adames. Plus we don’t have any long relief guys and Estevez is down today. Too many reasons not to take him out. Just my opinion.

Carp, you may have noticed I’ve been coming around to the same perspective — maybe this Bridich guy knows what he’s doing after all! To get there, we have to apply the Monfort Filter; that is, Dickie (I guess Charlie is out of the picture): (1) refuses to allow a Rockies GM to go the Astros/Braves all-in rebuild; (2) remains — probably as a consequence of that improbable, fantastic 2007 playoff run — hopelessly optimistic about competing right now, regardless… Read more »
