When do we start the lottery for world series tickets!!!!!!!Have officially switched over to purple sunglasses.Sun what a concept. We were snake bitten a bunch last year-time for payback.By the time the dreaded Braves get here could be series between two best records in baseball!

Hope he won, Jared. Wonderful moment to share with him. I can’t even remember my first little league game. I’m sure I hit a home run and struck out seven. LOL! Honestly, all I remember was the cold soda-fountain drink after the game. Loving how the Rockies are finally sticking to the formula–split on the road and kick ass at home. Looking into my purple crystal ball, I see WW in line for manager of the year. These guys are… Read more »

Yep … kind of reminds me of another new manager that came in. Did pretty good. Even won manager of year.

IMHO if Tracy could have stayed in the background like he did during his manager of the year run, he’d still be manager. WW has nothing to prove other than the little guys can win it all. It’s on the job training, and he’ll continue to make mistakes, but at least he looks like he believes in his team and, thus far, they team’s responding.

I be thrilled if the Rox can go 4-2 in the next 6 games. Take 2 of 3 from each ATL and AZ.

Fellas and gals… I’ve been telling all my friends to not get caught up in all the early season hype because we started last year 11-2. And look where we ended up. Oops again, by the old ump. It was 2011 when we began the season that way. Last year we were 8-7 after 15 games. 11-4 for the 2013 opening 15 games this year is a very nice, early season surprise. I really like our start, as do all… Read more »

Good assessment. Last year Pittsburgh contended through the all-star break, and Cleveland was good for the first 6 weeks as well.

I hope your assessment of Francis is wrong – but I’m afraid you might be correct. I also believe Nicasio is a relief pitcher. So we should really be looking for two SP.

I’m hoping Francis and/or Nicasio will hang on long enough to get Pom & Friedrich ready. Or being patient with Nicasio pays off in the long run like we did with Fowler’s left handed swing.

USA Today, May 31, 2006: “Baseball’s Rockies Seek Revival on Two Levels.” That was the famous article in which O’Dowd suggested that God had a hand in the Rockies early success. They were 27-24 at the time. They finished 76-86. In other words, after the article ran they went 49-62. So let’s not get too excited here. The Mets and Padres are two incredibly weak offensive teams, and they made our pitching look great. The Giants aren’t offensive giants either.… Read more »

We are now just 1 and a bit games from from the 10% points of the season. In many ways today’s game was a mirror of the season so far. So, with the idea that today’s game was well within what we have seen so far, how did it seem to me? Garland – that is now 9 out of 15 games with a Quality Start. In general I am not a huge fan of the QS stat, but for… Read more »

Very interesting today to hear the Mets’ announcers mentioning that the Rockies have the biggest disparity between home record and road record of all MLB teams since starting play in ’93. They pointed out that the Broncos and Nuggets also lead their sports in the same home-road splits.

That is, the Broncos and Nuggets in their franchise histories.

Interesting point – and sheds light on why we were such miserable failures last year. We have to embrace, and take maximum advantage, of the “uniquiness” that is Denver. We should expect to win a disproportional amount of home games. Our farm system should be built to mash. One of the reasons I was so excited to see Peyton sign with the Broncos is the increased number of offensive plays – and hopefully that number will go up more next… Read more »

If this was 2012:

1. Cuddyear would be on the 60-day DL with a broken wrist.

2. Rutledge would be out a week ago and for the next two weeks nursing broken or bruised ribs.

3. Dex would have a broken foot.

4. Tulo would have a chipped elbow.

Knock on wood, but so far all injury potentials have been negative.

These comments above are valid statements from both sides; we might be a really good team or the Rox are teasing us. I am leaning a little to the good team at this point for the following reasons: Every game we have been in it and had a chance to win except for the 10-0 whitewash at AT&T. Opening game we had a lead late in the game. The first game at SF, it was simply baseball where both teams… Read more »

Regardless of how the rest of his season goes[and I’m hopeful for some return to glory days] I think kudos for Todd Helton becoming number 19 all time on the doubles list deserves recognition by all Rockies faithful.

I wish we could play the Padres and Mets all year and the Giants could be stuck in Milwaukee like in Groundhog Day. Enjoy the moment.

Ed the Ump: ” I do feel however that, as much as I don’t want to admit it, I believe Francis is through.” You guys know I’m kind of a stats geek, and from that perspective Francis is really interesting. You can argue both ways: Francis is not done: on Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) ERA, he’s the same old Francis. Ordinary ERA is 8.25 this year, FIP is only 3.00. In general, that means a pitcher had really bad luck… Read more »

Great insight/deductions Agb… IMHO I think we are going to see Pom in the rotation by June 1 with Francis being released(maybe sooner), Arenado by the end of May(maybe sooner)… A contact told me that Nelson was told/knows that Arenado is “on the way” sooner than later…I’m predicting(with only my “instincts” working)that will occur following the NYY series…most teams like to bring up a youngster for a road series rather than exposing him to the home expectations…we’ll see. My call… Read more »

Wow! When we go well the conversation here gets real good. Ag, nice analysis of Francis’ FIP and BABIP. DrC, rmh, BobWV, all good stuff. What should always be paramount when breaking down anything is the “IF” factor. There will always be IF in the sports and real world. Just taking in the events and not over-analyzing will always be difficult. Trending, especially, over long periods of time and a wide variety of players is a slippery slope and can… Read more »

sabrchip said: “Wow! When we go well the conversation here gets real good.” It really makes a difference. Gone is the constant harping on the announcers. In a way I was appreciating the poor showing of the Rockies last year. It was allowing me to make progress in fighting my addiction to following the Rockies and watching their games. Now that they are doing well I am still not as addicted to the Rockies as I was because i am… Read more »

Bob K… I have totally weaned myself from FGH this year. I’ve had Sirius/XM for years and am now listening exclusively to that broadcast. I can take the Rox radio guys when the Rox are home if I must, but I really, really enjoy the broadcasters who report the home team feed when we are on the road. Even the 7-10 sec delay allows me to see a Rox HR and then prepare to hear the call from “the other… Read more »

I am going to have to agree with Ed the Ump here (and that doesn’t happen all that often) in that I expect both Pomeranz and Arenado on the MLB 25 man roster before June 1st. Pomeranz is pitching pretty solid for the Sky Sox and Arenado’s hitting is well let’s just say hitting over .400 is really good for AAA even if it is at Security Services Field. While many have been impatient with Pomeranz, I continue to believe… Read more »

It’s interesting to think the Yanks would come calling but what do they have that the Rox would get for Tulo? And understand, DO’D isn’t gonna let Tulo go cheap.

The Yankees don’t have much of anything the Rockies would want, however the Cardinals probably have the goods to make it happen. Texas as well. But what is with the trade talk when we’re at almost .750? Yowsa. I also find it difficult to perceive the Rockies making too many call ups while we’re doing so well. If we see a seriously bad May, then possibly. Also, the calls for Francis’ demise are premature, IMO. He pitched horribly in SF.no… Read more »

Ed, the two callups you mention have the most potential to enhance this team. I still think Francis is going to win games and eat innings. I remain skeptical of Nicasio who had i thought given scouting and opponent, his best start of his career in Mil. He got caught with his limited stuff in SF and that led to the pen blow-up in that 2nd game. He was not sharp vs the Mets but i hive him and Francis… Read more »
