wow, this is pitiful pitiful pitiful baseball. Completely undisciplined playing. mental error after mental error. I lay this at the feet of MMJT. I know the players should know better, but it’s up to the manager to ensure they play it right.

Are you kidding me? This is plain pathetic. Many, many major things have to happen now. Now. I don’t care if they have to go back to ’93 to get there.

Bad call to end the game, runner stepped on Helton’s toe and was called safe. How does that work as Helton being off the bag? Whatever.

Regardless, that was a bad outing for Betancourt. Too many blown opportunities.

Prog…don’t know which game you were watching but this loss is squarely on the shoulders of Helton. Root doesn’t mention one word that the throw didn’t pull Helton off the bag…Toddy just plain didn’t have his foot on the bag…how about the frickin’ announcers calling a spade a shovel. They all seem to want to blame LaMehieu for not being in position to receive a throw from Scoot. Bullshit!! And it wasn’t a bad call. Look closely. This one is… Read more »

Helton touched the base more than the runner did, as the runner actually stepped on Helton’s foot and not the bag. It was an out. Still, a pretty crappy play all around, Helton included.

Agree about the announcers. Frazier is actually the 1 employee I’d keep and I know everyone else hates him, so yeah throw them all out.

Agreed Ed, Even JT said go talk to Todd and see what happened. They in fact DID give the error to the correct player. Maybe Todd expected the play to go to 2nd, maybe not, in any event it looked to me like he sure was searching for the bag.

My big question is why the hell did I watch the game. I know the Rockies will find a way to lose. Can they trade Scutoro and Betancourt quickly before they have absolutely no trade value?

Doesn’t it seem Rockies players just LOVE to submarine their own trade values? Happens every year to this team.

With Tulo’s injury headed to surgery, Scutaro is not going anywhere.

I don’t see why not. There will come a point in July with the Rockies so far back it won’t matter if you lose a couple more games without him.

I’d rather have a 100 loss season without Scutaro than 98 with him.

Get a prospect, but maybe more importantly its an opportunity to see what you have in LeMahieu and Nelson. Perhaps even a shot to see a Rutledge or Arenado with the increased playing time in the infield.

Think of the fans attending games for the remainder of this season. Without a viable shortstop the fans will likely start to to stay away.

The Rockies do not have anyone else that can play SS everyday at the MLB level – Nelson=nope inconsistent, Herrera=nope no hit, LeMahieu=nope no SS defense, Rutledge=nope not ready, etc=nope.

Scutaro will stay to play shortstop for 2012.

According to Renck and the DP that error on the final play was on Helton! Is that correct? I’m not Todd’s biggest fan but that was clearly a bad play by Scutoro. (One of many he had).

Bill…please see my reply above regarding the Helton (non)play.

At least Renck checked it out…something the ROOT announcers should do before sdouting off on things they don’t know.

I am steamed!!

Ed, you’re right. In real time I couldn’t figure out why Helton seemed to be in such an awkward position to receive the throw. But Helton admitted it: he thought the throw was going to 2B, and he didn’t get in position with his foot on the bag to receive it. And then Scutaro kind of sidearmed it too. Just sloppy early spring training style baseball by a couple of guys with a combined 25 years of big league experience.… Read more »

The loss was on Betancourt; the non plays on the two grounders were to Scutaro are academic. Two outs and none on, Wiggy up and Rosario calls for breaking ball on the first pitch knowing that Wiggy is a FB hitter but can’t hit a softie. Bettie shook him off and threw a FB on a tee which Wiggy was thankful for. Then Pence up; two strikes on him and he throws a FB up and centercut which Hunter turned… Read more »

It seems fitting that Wigginton, formerly the worst player in baseball, broke up Betancourt’s perfect 9th inning and scored the tying run.

Rosario wanted that Pence fastball low and away, however Betancourt placed it up and in, which Pence hammered to the wall. Not that it matters at this point, but this loss (gift) is definitely on Betancourt – the Phillies say thank you very much. It is not too early to get my trade candidates ready for July 31st: 1. Guthrie ($8.2m middle reliever-shudda been gone by now) 2. Fowler (several CF candidates & Rockies need PITCHING) 3. Scutaro (unless he’ll… Read more »

I wouldn’t hestistate to add Betancourt to the list of trade baits. We are in a rebuilding mode so throw Brothers in as a closer with Belisle as a backup closer.

His value should be able to bring in a Coors Field compatible ground ball pitcher such as Jake Westbrook or similar.

I’m not going to sit and argue who should have had the error on the last play. I think everybody screwed up a bit including the 2B. Maybe if Nelson had still been at 2nd he would have been covering the base and we could have had the out. Of course then we would have lost in the 10th. I agree with most of the guys listed by Orange Rocks above with the exception of Fowler because I don’t think… Read more »
