The Rockies start a 3 game series at the Great American Ballpark tonight, taking on a red-hot Red’s team that has a four game sweep of the Atlanta Braves out of the way and a six game winning streak heading into tonight.
Christian Friedrich will make the fourth start of his Major League career tonight. Friedrich is 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA (13.0 ip, 2 er) in his first two career road games in the Majors.
On the other side of the field will be Reds right-handed pitcher Johnny Cueto. Cueto, the Opening Day starter, is 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA (16.0 ip, 3 er) in three career starts against the Rockies. He is currently 5-1 with a 1.97 ERA this season.
Missing from the lineup, as well as the dugout, will be Ramon Hernandez who was placed on the 15 day DL due to a left hand strain and have called Wil Nieves up to replace him.
Also in the news today is Jhoulys Chacin, who has finally found out the extent of his injury.
Chacin has an injury to his pectoral minor muscle involving a nerve entrapment. There’s no structural damage to his biceps, shoulder or elbow. This can be addressed through mobilization and strengthening exercise, but he won’t be allowed to throw for another few weeks at least.
