For the sabermetrics fans in the crowd, read this:

Normally – I’d just give you a “brief,” but this is one you need to read (and it gets a bit tedious) to believe.

My favorite part of this article: “For Chacin to make a significant breakthrough this season, a couple things need to happen. First and foremost, he must be given a clean bill of health, and must retain the full measure of his fly ball contact management skills, a key given his home address. He also needs to recover some of the bat-missing skills he possesses earlier in his career without compromising his control, which given his stuff is a perfectly reasonable… Read more »

Pretty funny…I’m listening to the game in the background while i’m working and after Ryan Wheeler’s double i heard Jerry Schemmel say, “Dustin Garneau up to bat” and it sounded like he was saying, “Justin Morneau” but really horribly…i finally looked at the Gameday app to see who was up because i thought he just couldn’t get the name right…

The local media got me by surprise this morning. Must be a slow start to the sports day. Citing and sourcing “fan reaction” they are yammering about “more of the same”. Yes they have lost 5 in a row. And? Makes me wonder if they realize this is the beginning of ST. Crazy.

I pay zero attention to spring training standings. Kind of like preseason football. Even spring training stats are pretty useless. That’s why I’m interested in what knowledgeable fans (you guys!) and reporters tell me about… Read more »

I’ve observed that a club’s regular season record is generally the opposite of Spring Training records. The Rockies have usually had great ST records, the Dodgers and Giants not so much. So this year so far is encouraging for Rocks fans, IMO. Even towards the end of ST when rosters are close to set, while the hitters are Major League the clubs tend to hide their starters in AAA ST games and use their AAA pitchers against other clubs, especially… Read more »

Ok, broaden my question to Paulsen, McBride and Parker. Question is, why did we pay for Morneau by giving up a very good defensive outfielder, who was an average hitter. We have at best a slightly less good defensive outfielder (Stubbs), who is a MUCH worse hitter. Maybe Blackmon will end up with the job – at least it is a promotion for the backlog in the outfield. My only guess is that there was a rift between Dex and… Read more »

I think this is just the company line RMH. I have to believe there was something else behind the Dex trade. It did not make the team better and the money piece is just 3 dimensional chess. If they wanted him around, they could’ve kept him.
