LOB and Long Ball Kill Momentum

You can’t expect to give up five home runs, leave 10 on base and go 2-10 with runners in scoring position and hope to win. While the teams bats might have heated up, they weren’t warm when it counted, unlike the Reds who showed that with or without Votto, they are legit.

Christian Friedrich was hammered into submission early on, giving up seven runs on only six hits in four and a third. Three of his seven runs came from the long ball. Josh Roenicke and Matt Belisle also watch as poorly placed pitches turned into outfield souvenirs.

LeMahieu went 3-4 and Rutledge was 3-5. CarGo and Cuddy each had two hits a piece and together they drove in five of the six runs.

But it was the runners left on base that really hurt the team.

Dex left the bases loaded in the sixth and CarGo left two on in the eighth, but it was the bottom of the ninth that really sealed the deal.

With fireball pitching from Chapman, Helton got hit by a pitch (something he was really not happy about), Pacheco singled and both eventually moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. With two outs DJ LeMahieu, who was 3-4 mind you, was pulled back for heavy hitter…Brown.

Jim Tracy decided that Andrew Brown, hitting a whopping .167, would be better suited to pinch hit instead of red-hot DJ LaMahieu for some unknown reason, and after fouling off a few, Brown struck out and it was high fives all around for the men in red.

On a positive note, Terry Frei reports that he really enjoyed the Tooth Race, and that his choice in the big screen pedicab race — the purple guy — won!

(Just kidding Jared … hope you had some fun at the park with family and friends)

Don’t get the pinch hitter when Le Mahieu was having his best game as a Rockie.A single would have tied it,and they would have burned Chapman for the rest of the game and maybe tomorrow’s game too.Agbayani,or anyone-how many times have we gotten tacos this season and lost the game?I think at least 3or 4 times.

If I counted right, the answer is 6 times the Rockies have scored 7 or more runs and lost. There are also 4 losses with 6 runs scored and a whopping 10 games lost in which the Rox scored 5 times. Wow.

Look at it in another sense, in those 20 games the Rockies scored over 116 runs and didn’t win any. Ouch.

Thanks for the depressing answer Bob.That’s even worse than I remembered, but explains my complete withdrawal from attending any games.

Can Friedrich pitch in Coors? He only threw 51 pitches last night.

The most disgusting ‘xcuse for a ML baseball team I have ever seen. Would someone please grab the tar and feathers. Pathetic.
