Mammoth Fly + Three Ice Baths = RWO #9

The matchup of the winless starters, Yohan Flande  (0-5, 4.91) and Vidal Nuno (0-6, 4.60) were decided by the bullpen tonight.  After five innings, Arizona led Colorado 2-1.  Thomas Kahnle relieved Flande and couldn’t throw a strike in the ocean walking in a run with the bases loaded.  In came a member of “The Bee Herd”, Matt Belisle, and he allowed all three inherited runners to score giving the D-backs a 6-1 lead.

Brandon Barnes drove in Money whom singled to get the bottom of sixth inning started and came home on Clobberson’s single to narrow the deficit to 6-3.  The eighth inning was almost like a replay of the sixth inning.  Money again got the two run rally started with a double.  Wilin Rosario drove Money home with a single.  After Baby Bull was wiped out on a Barnes double play grounder, Clobberson singled in front of D.J. LeMahieu’s double.  The deficit was 6-5 to set up the ninth inning dramatic finish.  Franklin Morales who was moved back into the bullpen kept the Rockies hanging around with two scoreless innings.

The ninth inning featured a match up of the closers.  LaTroy Hawkins threw a typical nine-pitch inning to set up the heroic rally.  Pinch hitter Corey Dickerson replaced Drew Stubbs to face righty Addison Reed and lined a single to the opposite field.  Dickerson was still standing on first base after the Justin Morneau and Money fly outs.  Baby Bull stepped to the plate and really crushed the ball.  It cleared the Pavilion seats and landed on the concourse near the HeltonBurger Shack.  It was the Rockies’ ninth walk-off of the year and Baby Bull was rewarded with three ice baths.

Now Arizona and Colorado are once again knotted up in the race to the Wild West basement.  In addition, Colorado needs just one more victory to avoid six figures in the loss column.  Nine games remain in the season; three at home vs. Arizona and three each in San Diego and Los Angeles.

That was a grand send off for rockymountainhigh as he prepares to leave for a vacation in Hawaii.  If anyone wants to write about the game, feel free to write a story using Sound Off.  The RWO staffers would appreciate keeping this website active.  Everyone has access to write on RWO via “Sound Off”.  Just click on “New Post”and write away.  Click on the “Publish” button to put it on the RWO web site.

I couldn’t either, but I think I found it. Look at the very top of the webpage. You should see “+ New”. Hold the cursor over it and a pull down menu appears. It took quite a while for me to notice it up there.

The counter has been flipped! So, why is it this team starts off strong this year and finishes with more fun games then they did the last 100 games and yet I still can’t find myself thinking we will ever get close to 90 wins in the near future no matter what the front office does? I have zero faith (first time in Rockies history) that DOD or anyone else will go to winter meetings and walk out of there… Read more »

There are answers – but unfortunately, it starts at the VERY top. Anything short of new ownership won’t fix the problem.
