Right handed reliever Manny Corpas, the 2007 closer for the Rockies during their magical run, has been picked up by the Rockies and invited to spring training. He will be a non-roster invitee because the teams 40 man roster is full, but the team is excited to see if he will return to his powerful ways.
Corpas spent last season with the Cubs going 0-2 with a 5.01 ERA.
What do you guys think? You happy about this? Good move?
No downside, nothing ventured….etc.Certainly not the big move I keep waiting for!
As a invite great, lets see what he can do….
Wow what a move…start sizing the rings!!!:(
I can see Corpas throwing flat sliders that start inside half of the plate and spin into the sweet spot of the barrels. Escalona over Corpas all the time for me.
I can see Corpas throwing almost blindly to first on that swinging bunt in 2007 for the final out that got the Rox into the play-in game. Seems like ancient history now, but what a fond memory. Not much longer (after the Broncos season) begins my dilusional thinking that maybe all these pieces come together and we see a remarkable turnaround that other teams have occasionally shown. Not much chance of it but hope springs eternal.
The Rockies will need to start wearing the black shirts again to disguise Corpas pouring water all over his shirt and wiping it on the ball.
Typical move for the SMIB. Release proven pitchers only to sign discards to minor league deals.
Evidently the 1995 Nostalgia Parade wasn’t enough. Bring on the 2007 Nostalgia Parade! Where’s Kaz Matsui these days?
All it is is a shell game being played by these clowns hoping that the uninformed masses buy into this ruse. The more I read of what they’ve done or haven’t done this off-season coming off a a 98-loss campaign only pisses me off more.
Anybody have any thoughts on the article in MLB Trade Rumors that the Rockies don’t plan on trading Cuddyer? To me he seems like a very tradeable player if you can get a decent starting pitcher in return.
He’s a great “clubhouse guy”, winning isn’t taken into consideration.
OK, now that yesterday’s debacle is behind us, time to start gearing up for our Summer of Suffering.
Yikes! We never know which Manny Corpas will show up on any given day!
Seems like the Mariners are shopping Justin Smoak pretty hard. Hope Fric and Frac have checked in on the asking price. I remain more concerned about our gaping hole at 1B than I do about our SP.
Really? Smoak seems average at best. I like Colvin.
I know there are season ticket holders on here. Curious, any of you going to the owners meeting(s)?
and if so, who wants to report back to me on them for the site?
