Meh

The effects of playing 40 games in the first 42 games took a toll on the Rockies as they lost 5-0 tonight.  Justin Morneau was originally penciled into the lineup but he was scratched 45 minutes before the game.  Jordan Pacheco took his catching gear off and played first base.  Due to the wet fields, CarGo became the DH while Nazty started in left field for the first time this year.  Mike McKenry came off the bench to start at catcher.  All the moves resulted in a bad night all  around.  Nazty had two errors and McKenry threw the ball into LF on a steal attempt at 3B.  The seventh inning was bad with  HBP, wild pitches, passed ball, and errors.  It is now 13 innings since the Rockies last scored a run.

NoDo had a single to extend his hit streak to 28, halfway to Joe DiMaggio’s mark.  That was basically the highlight of the game from the Rockies’ offense.  Colorado drops to 22-15 and 9-10 on the road.  They head to Cincinnati to face Johnny Cueto in the first game of a three-game set.

Frankie Morales: marginally acceptable as a 5th starter! Better than Jamie Moyer and Jon Garland!! Clears that incredibly low bar with room to spare!!! Cisco and I will declare victory. However, we really could use an upgrade, but someone gets hurt every time Frankie is about to be sent back to the pen.

Ag, I respect you a lot, but that is just silly. Moyer was basically a 5 inning pitcher hoping to fool people. Morales was a top 10 prospect in 2007 and has added a cutter that, trying to find the link, Wright said he is still learning to use, so its going to get better. Given the choice, I take Frankie over Juan. We can argue about that, but the Moyer statement is you not being serious. Frankie deserved the… Read more »

Ag, No question Frankie is an upgrade over the dumpster fire we had in the 4th & 5th slot last season. The Rox are now 4-3 in the games started by Frankie this season. That game last night was 3-0 (2 earned runs) at the end of 6, so Frankie was keeping the team in the game with three of your regulars out of the lineup. I agree the slot can use an upgrade, but until Chatwood, Anderson, or one… Read more »

Why can’t we finish off the sweeps? I’m curious again to see if we havet he bounce back game tonight that has been typical for the season.

That McKenry DP with the bases loaded was a major downer. Starting to miss Wilin’s bat.

That game was so bleak that there’s no mention (in the comments) of Nolan’s streak! and only one dry sentence in the wrapup. That’s how bleak that game left us. Consider the streak mentioned, at least. Way to go, kid. How high is your ceiling in the long run, anyway?!

Watched a good portion of the game last night. Frankie was pretty good against a good hitting team in a good hitting park. Only the ball to Fielder was really bad, and I think Fielder was just sitting on that one, because it wasn’t a complete “hit me” pitch. I am not sure why he was sent out in the 7th save that it was AL and no pinch-hitter needed, but he had given you 6 good innings want to… Read more »

Dr. C, when I say Frankie is “marginally acceptable,” that’s exactly what I mean. And exactly what he’s been. Sure, he’s had some Coors starts, but a guy with a 5+ ERA is still a guy with a 5+ ERA. You can stay competitive with a guy like that, but you’d be better off with, well, someone else. By the way, Moyer had about a 5.80 ERA when we released him. Garland about a 5.70. Frankie is at 5.18. So… Read more »
