Mental Mistakes Sink Rox 4-3

Mistake #1)  They started a right-handed centerfielder against a right handed pitcher.   Drew Stubbs went 0-5 with two strikeouts, a comebacker, and two rollovers.

Mistake #2)  Baby Bull could not catch the ball that came right to the plate on one hop five steps ahead of the runner.

Mistake #3)  Justin Morneau tried to stretch a single into a double on a routine liner to CF and was out by a mile at second base.

Mistake #4)  With runners on 1st and 3rd, one out Stanton bounced to NoDo on the foul line behind the bag, yet he decided to try to make a triple play (so to speak) when the runner on third base wasn’t even halfway down the line to home at the time NoDo threw over to second base.

As a result, the Rockies lost another road game, this time by a score of 4-3 to the Miami Marlins.  Miami scored the first run of the game which was not a good omen for the Rockies.  They had a record of 3-38 on the road when the opponent scores first.  After tonight, they are 0-2 on the season.  The bullpen were much better tonight with veterans Zero and Rex Brothers tossing clean innings.  The Rockies drop to 0-2 on the season.

Really good write-up RMH. You might also add Anderson walking — actually pitching around if you can believe it — Jeff Baker in order to set up the double play with Stanton. Dangerously stupid in a tie game at the time, and even though it worked in theory (Stanton hit a slow roller to Arenado; too slow to turn 2), in reality DJLM forced a throw allowing Stanton to make it to 2nd. Stanton then steals 3rd uncontested (“on the… Read more »

Only saw a couple of innings, but it looked like Anderson had some good movement on his pitches and put in a decent performance, but Ag you’re right about pitching around Baker…the radio guys said the “if I didn’t know better, I’d say he was pitching around him”….and as soon as i saw the ball on DJLM’s throw go into the dugout i thought…go ahead run at second on throw that shouldn’t have happened…omen. One interesting (non-game related) note i… Read more »

I believe the magic number is still at 162 until everyone else has two losses. Sorry to ruin your day, TJ! 🙂

Themes for 2014, Team Weaknesses Not Addressed (or Actually Created by) Rockies Management: 1. Leadoff Hitter OBP. Currently .000 2. OF defense. After several years of patting ourselves on the back for having “2 centerfielders,” we inexplicably decided to have zero centerfielders by sending one packing to Houston and by playing one in LF. Cuddyer was awful in RF the first 2 games — how many balls with significant air under them did he fail to reach? Almost every baseball… Read more »

So does Brothers appearence last night mean he is a set up man? or was he just getting some work in? I believe that would be another dumb decision by this group if he is not the closer. Why not have a lineup like this since there is not a leadoff type hitter on this team and Tulo is NOT a cleanup hitter. Cuddyer RF Tulo SS Morneau 1B Cargo LF Rosario C Arenado 3B Stubbs CF DJ 2b At… Read more »

Agreed on Tulo. Cringeworthy.

I can’t really see Cuddy at leadoff, but there sure isn’t anything else….

Agbayani, good question about why the Rockies didn’t move Cuddyer to first base full time and call it good and wait for Kyle Parker to take over for him after this year. That way, they wouldn’t have needed to sign Morneau, and they could have allocated that money to Dex. We’ll see tonight how Lyles does and whether the trade will ultimately pan out for the Rockies.

Julian, if you remember the “original” plan spouted early on in the off season by Rockies management was to move Cuddyer to 1st base. It may be in the 1st email from Mr. Monfort. I think I may still have it. I will check.

All good sense, Julian. Except apparently they wanted to dump Dex anyway, because he’s “not tough enough” or some crap like that. Sure, he had holes in his game, but he also had big assets, and we now got nothin’. Unless Barnes does grab that job by the horns every time he gets a chance out there. And if Lyles becomes something, then we win the trade. Wow. Really tired of “if” and “unless.” Can Tim Wheeler play right field?… Read more »

General remark, not news to any of us and been stated many times by us: RWO rocks. I am officially done with the Denver Post comment thread. What a load of toxic complaining, 90% or so. (Haven’t seen Northsider there yet this season; he’s almost the only one I can stomach. I still think he and Ag are twin sons of different mothers.) Hey, I get that people are hurting over the Rockies, for a long while too, but I… Read more »

I stopped going there a few seasons ago Julie. Occasionally I will get a message from someone. Not sure if you remember when I got a beat down from some because I wasn’t on the Friedrich bandwagon. I didn’t help when I stated Deduno wasn’t ready :>)

Was glad when I saw that you migrated over, Mike. You were always on the Good List :-). I think you were even one of those kind enough to write a note of support when I reported the loss of my home in the Fourmile Fire…. You and North…. If that’s a correct memory, I thank you again.

roxnsox, i’m surprised you lasted as long as you did…i tried following comments on DP and there is so much vile and bitter people over there that i couldn’t handle it…a couple of years ago i posted something on here about not being able to handle most of the people commenting because they were just so angry and they’d jump on anyone with anything good to say…

of course i’m biased, but RWO does rock! 🙂

I know, Jare; I did try to stick with it due to the few erudite posters but it’s just degenerated way too far even to try picking through .

Hey roxnsox, after you guys suggested I could be Northsider I checked out DP comments. I don’t know who Northsider is, but he/she is pretty damn smart!

I’ve watched less than 2 innings of each game. Unfortunately on Monday it was the inning that DLR and Rosario had their dust up and the much improved Lopez showed that he’s still the same bum he was last year. Last night I watched the inning where the fish scored their final two runs. Did anybody else notice what I saw. When Arenado fielded the Stanton ball at 3rd he looked at the plate Rosario was there but made no… Read more »
