The MLB Network released their All-Time Rockies Starting Lineup a bit back, and it got me thinking about what you guys think would be an all-time starting 9 for the boys in purple.ย Here is what the MLB Network thinks is the perfect lineup, as well as a little “poll” for what you think they got right (or wrong)…
ALL TIME STARTING 9 |
|
Eric Young | 2B |
Ellis Burks | CF |
Larry Walker | RF |
Todd Helton | 1B |
Matt Holliday | LF |
Troy Tulowitzki | SS |
Vinny Castilla | 3B |
Chris Iannetta | CF |
Ubaldo Jimenez | P |

Iannetta had me going, wha??? I like the kid, but is he the best catcher the Rockies have ever had???
I’m already saying it’s Rosario
Mine would be:
1. Eric Young 2B
2. Carlos Gonzalez LF
3. Larry Walker RF
4. Andres Galarraga 1B (just because he’s my all-time favorite)
5. Troy Tulowitzki SS
6. Vinny Castilla 3B
7. Wilin Rosario C
8. Ellis Burks CF
9. Ubaldo Jimenez P (Pre 2011)
Or you could do it this way since Cargo can play all three OF spots:
1. Eric Young 2B
2. Carlos Gonzalez CF
3. Larry Walker RF
4. Andres Galarraga 1B (just because heโs my all-time favorite)
5. Matt Holliday LF
6. Troy Tulowitzki SS
7. Vinny Castilla 3B
8. Wilin Rosario C
9. Ubaldo Jimenez P (Pre 2011)
I think a great debate (without looking at stats at this point): Cargo vs Holliday…stay tuned.
Oh..Ego-I thought about the Big Cat too….loved that guy. Still remember the monster shot to left field in Miami…
And he’s one of the few Rockies players that would actually charge if he was beaned on purpose. That would be a scary sight to see if the Big Cat was running towards you all pissed off!
I have Jason Jennings add the all time pitcher because he gave us several years. UJ was only one year or so.
I Have Dex in cf if he gives us another 2-3 more good years. Ditto for Rosario at c.
Previous to Rosario my favorite C for the Rockies was Charles Johnson, but it was at the sunset of his career.
What, not Girardi? ๐
Joe was my favorite catcher as well.
I’m moving heavily into the “Francis looks like he’s done” camp.
