The Colorado Rockies knocked the San Francisco Giants down a half game over the Dodgers in SF’s pursuit of the NL West title with Monday night’s 6-5 victory. They’ll send right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (2-5, 4.50) to the mound tonight to try and do it again versus Giants’ lefty Madison Bumgarner (14-10, 3.15) in the middle game of San Francisco’s final appearance at Coors Field in 2012. First pitch is at 6:40. LA trails the Giants by 5 games (1 behind St Louis in the wild-card). The Dodgers have two with the Dbacks in Phoenix tonight and tomorrow.
Chacin has been excellent in four starts since returning from the disabled list. He labored a bit in his last start, one of those 1-0 losses (Thursday) in Atlanta, leaving after 3 1/3 and 78 pitches. He gave-up the run (unearned on his own error) on 7 hits and 3 walks. Bumgarner lost to Arizona last Wednesday. He went 6 1/3, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. He struck-out 5.
Dexter Fowler is back in center, leading off, for the Rockies’ MFL Jim Tracy. Matt McBride is hitting 7th in right-field. The Giants’ Bruce Bochy is sticking with the same group as Monday.
The weather in Denver will cool rapidly this afternoon under cloudy skies. Game-time temperature will be around 67° and continuing to fall. Relative humidity will be 52% and wind will blow-in from left at a brisk 12 mph.
Jeff and Drew are on ROOT (TV), Jerry and Jack on radio KOA 850 am.

We’re (yes my wife is coming) going to be at the game tonight. I hate the Giants more than the Dodgers so I hope we continue to reel in the Giants to help out the Dodgers.
This game is in honor of 9/11 victims. Lost quite a few co-workers on the United Airlines flights that day. My heart will be dedicated to my courageous co-workers as well as my wife.
Excellent news, RMH. Go get ’em.
That is great news (about you and your wife going to the game, not your co-workers). Play a bingo card for me!
MFL Tracy is obviously losing his mind. He allows Torres to bat with men on 1st and 2nd and 2 outs with Outman warming up in the BP. So of course Torrres strikes out and he subsequently gives up two more when he goes back out to pitch. This is of course with an expanded Sept roster. Is winning ball games not a high priority in this organization regardless of what the standings say? It’s a great way of creating… Read more »
Yes. This is a pivotal miscall on Tracy’s part, IMO. This is a big side effect of the 75 pitch limit and burning a pitcher too early which limits your ability to PH early in the game.
Probably don’t have much right to complain, as I’m not there myself, but being out drawn by rivals should have ended in 2007. Seems like half the teams in the league have massive support in our own stadium.
Didn’t know Scahill threw mid-90s. Now I see why they consider him a prospect. Obviously raw, but another power sinker guy. Yeah, that Torres hitting thing is getting old real fast. Prog, with the expanded rosters I can’t see why they’d worry about burning a pinch hitter. Giambi’s still alive, isn’t he? RMH, sorry the Rockies didn’t give you a better performance, but great to hear you guys are back together at Coors! By the way, I really liked your… Read more »
It was more the pitcher I don’t think they want to burn so early, not the PH.
Geez. Giambi is truly useless this year.
And who would’ve guessed that a 41 year old would be useless? That a 49 year old pitcher wouldn’t make it through May? That a 36 year old catcher would break down and catch about 50 games? That a 38 year old first baseman with a chronic back ailment would play like a 38 year old with a chronic back ailment? I mean, what a shocking run of completely unforeseeable bad luck!
You’re right Ag,”who’d a thunk it”.
Ag, we left the game after five innings for that exact reason you just described. Rox push across a run to cut lead to 6-5, two on and two outs. Perfect setup for Giambi. I see Outman warming up and Torres walking up to the plate. I knew the game was over. It was the earliest we have ever left and we were not alone. There was a throng of knowledgeable fans (who were disgusted at not pinch hitting in… Read more »
