New Round of Cuts

The team has shaved their Spring Training roster down to 32, six of those are non-roster players.  Here is the latest group that received their demotions and one pink-slip:


  •  LHP Drew Pomeranz
  • RHP’s Bobby Casseva
  • Jeff Manship
  • INF Matt McBride


  •  RHP Miguel Batista

Six non-roster players: Volstad, Corpas, Torrealba, Arenado are who I can identify off the NRI list on Who are the other two? I think the active roster player most in danger of being released will be Reid Brignac. It’s down to him or LeMahieu. I hope the Rox choose LeMahieu because I don’t need another left handed bat in the lineup. Torrealba is dependent on whether Hernandez gets traded or not. One was Miguel Batista, who was released yesterday as he was a 2012 free agent qualifying under section XX(B) and needed to be informed of his decision by today.

The other is right-handed reliever Logan Kensing.

Unless there’s a trade, the guys with options get sent down, the guys without make the club. That means Herrera, LeMahieu, Volstad and Arenado go to AAA. escalona, Brignac, and Nelson make the team. If it were based only on skill and common sense (to give Arenado some AAA time), only Nelson would win out, and that for about a half year. Aaron Cook? I’m not sure about that. So far, I think that Pomeranz, Chatwood, and Friedrich are in the CS starting rotation. I’m not sure which of our other current guys will be in that rotation, such as Cabrera, Bettis, Houston, and Frazier. I think that Scahill and Outman will be relievers. Where will Gardner be?
