New Series, Same Results? – Game 1, Rox v Brewers

No commentary tonight. Enough is already being said among fans. All I can say is how long before major changes have to be made to keep fans engaged? I still think this team can win 78 games, but wow not the way they are playing right now.

If the Rox do not sign Peter Lambert, do we get an extra pick in round 2 next year (4th pick)?

Good question. My initial thought was that applied only to the 1st Round. But the slotting system applies to the first 10 rounds – so I’m just guessing, but I’m thinking we would get an extra pick.

If Lambert does not sign, the Rockies would get a compensation pick next year. Since the Rockies held the 2nd pick in the 2nd round this year, next year’s compensation would be the 3rd pick in the 2nd round. “A Rule 4 Draft compensation pick is available only if a club is unable to sign a player selected in one of the first three rounds (including supplemental compensation draft picks between rounds 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4). A club must offer… Read more »

Thanks Bob K! On one hand, we need to sign every pitcher we can, and I believe we have until about July 15th, so plenty of time. I remain very impressed at the speed the Rox have signed the other guys. On the other hand, most scouts/talent evaluators feel that next year’s draft will have significantly better talent than this year’s draft. If that pans out…..then a better player could easily be available in that same slot. If the Rox… Read more »

Nikorak and Nevin ate up just about all the Rockies saved on Rodgers. Other savings they made still have them at $590,000 extra (if they didn’t already use it signing the other picks for which the signing bonus is unknown) available to work on #4 RHP Peter Lambert -slot – $1,395,200 and #6 RHP David Hill – slot – $533,000. Since Hill was the fourth round pick, failure to sign him will lose his slot money and will not bring… Read more »

Very nice info Bob.

This is where scouting and player development come into play. In a vacuum…..knowing that next year’s draft is supposedly stacked, it might be better to focus on getting Hill signed. But the scouts may love Lambert…..who knows?

Wow, something I hadn’t thought of until now. Montfort said that the city might not deserve a MLB team… he’s right! So MOVE! Find another city that suits you and take your team with you! If you won’t sell, then move! MLB has seen that Denver will support MAJOR league baseball… we’ll likely end up with another team in a couple of years. Hey Dick… MOVE! GET OUT! GO AWAY! SCRAM! Thanks for everything! Au Revoir. Auf weidersehn (forgive the… Read more »

Where’s the boos? Where is the indignation by homer Drew? Where is the passion? It’s not anywhere except here. Move the team, Dick. I’ll get by with the Broncos for a while.

I’ve watched fewer games, or at least full games, this year than ever but even though they were down 6-0 I turned on the Rockies and said, “well it’s early” and they seemed to make it a game until Bergman gave it all back. A few comments- it seems that every time I watch the Rocks somebody gets thrown out on the bases. Tonight it was Descalso. Is this the worst baserunning team in the league? In the history of… Read more »

Huntley didn’t interfere as the 1st baseman had already wiffed on pickup and sweep tag.He under cut Hundley IMO and should have been called for a flagrant 1.

Nuggets – 30-52
Avalanche – last in the Western Conference Central (albeit hockey’s stacked division)
Rapids – last in MLS West – a full 3 points worse the 2nd to last
Broncos – the end is very near for Peyton

Rockies – probably worst team in Baseball

It’s really a sad time for sports in Denver in general.
