The 2015 non-waiver trade deadline is July 31st, just over 5 weeks away. This “should” be a busy year for the Rox. So it seems like a good idea to have a place for trade news and notes as we move towards the deadline.
The Braves and DBacks kicked off the festivities with a real head scratcher. Bronson Arroyo and Touki Toussant for a utility type middle infielder. The reactions from “experts” have been priceless:
“The Braves get another top pitching prospect to further improve a farm system that might be one of the top three in the game before the season is over. How valuable might Toussaint be? Well, Nick Piecoro, the Diamondbacks beat write for AZCentral Sports, wrote on Twitter that “If Touki Toussaint is a free agent right now, what does he get? Seems to me he’d get more than DBacks saved.””
Here’s another – from FoxSports:
“Like most everyone else, I find it perplexing that the Diamondbacks were willing to give up the No. 16 pick in last year’s draft, right-hander Touki Toussaint, in what essentially was a salary dump late Saturday night.
By contrast, I loved that the Braves essentially bought a top prospect for about $10 million in acquiring Toussaint and right-hander Bronson Arroyo for infielder Phil Gosselin, who might never be more than a bench player.”
To be fair to the DBacks…..they’ve had Toussant for a year now, so maybe they know something. But isn’t this the Club that just inked a 1 billion dollar TV contract? They don’t need relatively modest salary dumps if it means giving up a key Prospects.
Hopefully we’ll have some Rockies action to discuss at some point!
