It is still May and we have two more games vs. Philadelphia Phillies. All it takes is a two-game win streak and the Rockies win a road series and move on to Cleveland where both CarGo and NoDo will be seeing an orthopedic surgeon specialist. Today Brett Anderson had his pins removed from his broken finger. The best news for the Rockies is watching Jorge De La Rosa (5-3, 3.91 ERA) take the ball tonight fresh off a perfect three-inning stint . Opposing him will be none other than Cole Hamels (1-2, 4.30 ERA). The offensively challenged Colorado squad will stack the right-handed batters box (except CarGo and Justin Morneau) to counter Hamels. Their BABIP averages have been lower than normal which are not sustainable. A few more walks worked out will help mitigate bad luck in the BABIP department.

I wrote this back on May 16th (just before the Padres/Giants homestand: “This Padres series is IMPORTANT! Prior to the season, I predicted 86 wins, and said a key would be getting through April/May playing 500 baseball (based primarily on what appeared to be a brutal schedule). Of course, even with our current little hiccup, we’re ahead of pace. But – after this Padres series, the rest of May is tough (then we get a favorable home schedule in June… Read more »
I strongly agree with Prog’s statement – if we are so offensively challenged on the road, then BUNT even if that means middle of the order hitter doing it. Another strategy that may help is do more hit-and-run plays. Makes it easy on the hitter to go ahead and swing expecting FB. If slider, great as it buys runner an extra step or two to get to the next base. I don’t care if you looked silly swinging at a… Read more »
All I was saying in my Panic post was a) Morales needs to be in the pen where he can be dominate again, b) Chacin is not getting better but worse and I worry he is either hurt or was rushed and a return to the DL or COS is in order and c) shake the leaves and see if a guy like Mike Moustakas might be available to potentially get the batting order long again. Instead everyone acted as… Read more »
Sorry guys – somehow I missed the memo on Cole Hamels being the Phillies SP tonight. I though we were getting a couple of their AAA guys.
Did Tulo have a piano on his back jogging to first base in the seventh inning Tuesday night? Ground ball nearly past Hernandez at third, he swats it down, it rolls around, he finds it and throws Tulo out by 10 feet! Where’s the hustle in a 1-1 game?
So good news guys – Tyler Chatwood has thrown off flat ground for three consecutive days. Late June timetable.
