Walt Weiss continues to mismanage the bullpen. Last night he brings in Jason Gurka for his major league debut in a 3-1 game in the seventh inning? The Pirates scored a run off him and the final score was 4-3. Today JDLR takes the ball for the Rockies in an attempt to finish the road trip with a 3-3 record.
Kyle Kendrick is starting one of the two doubleheader games Tuesday on the first day of expanded roster. It is part of WW’s possible plan to go to a six-man rotation. WW also continues to roll with Gopherg while he continuously walks guys. Thomas Kahnle has been sent back to Albuquerque to keep the bullpen doors revolving.
Down on the farm, Kyle Freeland and Jeff Hoffman bounced back from their previous horrible starts. Jose Tinoco and Antonio Senzatela continue to impress.
It’s fun watching the Pirates. They remind me of the Royals. Some really good BP arms. Great defensive OFers. Lots of versatility. I’m psyched to see Clint Hurdle in a great situation.
So Jorge gets thrown out of the game as he’s coming out of the game. Whatever.
Is it just me…..or did it seem like WW didn’t have a clue what was going on between Jorge and the Umpire. Descalso did, but Walt didn’t.
LOL – WW admits in post-game interview he didn’t know what was going on! I guess he gets a star for being honest, but I’m going to dock him about 5 stars for being clueless.
BTW – my choice for Manager if we do the right thing and rebuild – JR House. Young. Energetic. Smart.
Very nice win. I wouldn’t have guessed (and certainly would have taken) 3-3 before this road trip.
Axford is one of those guys (I think many fall into this category) that is useful to most major league teams if used correctly. For whatever reason, he’s not quite right Closing (in general). But he can excel in slightly lower leverage situations.
It was a very nice win. It gives us a glimpse of the team that they can be when they pitch well.
