Ah, Baseball…Is there a greater game on the face of the planet? Some may argue about other sports being more popular, better attended, more watched. But I give you our National Pastime, one filled with such amazing history, man has yet to create a tome to capture it all. Try as they may, historians will always fail to record every incredible moment, because it would be impossible to harvest even a fraction of what has happened from over 400,000 games played since the advent of this amazing sport.
That is the true beauty of The Show, the sheer magnitude and richness of a single season. 162 games fought before a single team is called out. 162 chances for fans to witness a perfect game, watch an unassisted triple play, sit thru a cycle or rejoice at a walk-off. When your beloved team falters on the field, the pain is but a blink of an eye, before the next first pitch is thrown out anew, and hope is restored.
So, others can keep their gridirons and pitches. Their rinks and courts hold nothing for us. We come each year to worship at the foot of the diamond and await those two magical words…PLAY BALL!!!

Great job on the site, Jared!
Love that Cargo pic!!!
Orange, that’s my little boy, we took that at Spring Training fan photo day in Tucson in 2010. All the players loved him in his Rockies outfit!
So, was anyone inspired reading my “opening day” post? I tried to hit it out of the park, pomp, circumstance, etc…or did everyone just look at the picture and move on 🙂
I read it and thought it was great. Thanks for all you do on this site for all of us.

My pleasure Jeff – where you hail from?
I want to chime in and also thank you, Jared, for picking up the ball and not just running with it after ITR shut down, but doing such a terrific job. I also want to say that I am completely happy that spring training games are over. I went to one last week and other than the fact that there were MLB players on the field, at least for 5-6 innings, it felt a little too laid back, very much… Read more »
