Padres visit Coors for Last Time in 2015

Oh what a long strange ride it has been. The off-season we watched the Padres drain their farm system and make a big run for the World Series.

And the Rox were signing Kyle Kendrick.

Now 7 months after Spring Training opened and the various clubs arrived in Arizona and Florida we arrive at….

September 18th and…the Padres have 8 more wins…and the Rox have the 3rd ranked farm system.

So as we see the Rox finish the season and the race is on…for the 3rd worst record in baseball.

Currently the Braves are the stinkiest of all teams with just 56 wins

The Phils are almost as smelly at just 57 wins

And you have the Rox and Reds for the 3rd worst at 61 wins….

So can the Rox managed to win 2 more wins to avoid losing 100 games, and then battle to try and get at least the 3rd overall pick. Maybe….another Jonathan Grey is going to drop into their laps.

So as we see things wind down just imagine an outfield with David Dahl leading off and playing gold glove centerfield, his corner mate Ramiel Tapia working on his 20 game hit streak, and the rotation of Grey, Hoffman and Freeland welcoming a the Padres in, struggling with their budget and their empty payroll 15 games behind the Rox as the Rox battle with the Dodgers for 1st place.

Hey…without hope why bother?

And who knows, maybe Chad Bettis with be in the #4 spot?

I would love nothing more than to sweep the Padres just to make them bash their heads against the wall for going all out and nothing gained for their efforts.

So why is everyone playing well now? Good pitching, timely hitting, good defense, sharp bullpen work. Shouldn’t everybody be tired and dispirited? Saving a 5-5 West Coast road trip for the last three weeks of the season is just so wrong.

Looks like we won’t hit 100 losses either. Can’t these guys do anything right?

Actually we have played .500 ball for the last month since the bullpen fix. This is really some waning fun to watch since they aren’t quitters!

Don’t you think Bergman has earned a couple of starts in place of Kendrick who should be DFA’d or just released.Bergman has had a thankless job and done everything asked of him, including throwing strikes, sitting for days when lesser talent has been run out there, and working fast and pretty darn good overall.Since he worked yesterday he’d be right on track. If Flande is done then mix and match either spot.Just never let me see Kendrick again,PLEASE!

Since Kendrick is a free agent after the season there is no reason the DFA him. Based on his decreased velocity yesterday, there should be ample reason to stick him back on the DL and forget about him. They just have to be sure to not sign him again in the off season. My guess is that as many roster spots that are going to need to be freed up after the season that we shouldn’t have to worry about… Read more »

I just don’t want to see his batting practice stuff ever again.Like the DL idea. What example does it set for the young guys who continue to fight and play hard when basicly management is saying we are going to forfeit 2 games by throwing out an over matched, over paid loser!

I agree, Gary. Bergman has done a fine job as the long man, and I don’t see any reason why they’d ever send Kendrick out there again. Time to start rewarding the guys who’ve made a contribution, even if just a modest contribution.

The Rockies seem to value Bergman as the long reliever, so I suspect that we’ll see him complete the year in that roll, particularly since he’s not stretched out.

Unfortunately, I think that we’ll see Kendrick pitch twice more. Hopefully, we’ll do better in adding pitchers this offseason.

Stretched out, come on already,we’re 6 months into the season.Use each of our dozen relievers for an inning to complete the game.Plus Hale is also being used as long man.Who cares what the ROX see him as since they are terrible judges of talent and roles anyway.Give the kid a shot.Maybe he’ll blossom into Colin McHugh[remember him] and win 19-20 games like McHugh is doing this year.

Hey RWOers just got back from Hawaii vacation. Nice respite from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I had my MLB.tv ready to catch the Rox late innings when I’m around the home base resort. Guess what???? Blacked out!!!! Hawaii???? Blacked out for Seattle, SF, Oakland, LAD, and SD!! Something’s very wrong with MLB.TV blackout policy. I did come home early morning yesterday after a red eye flight and I was going to write up a post after the Rox game… Read more »
