Pirate Party in Our House…

Clint Hurdle fans rejoice.  Bergman fans…um, are there any out there after tonight?  Any Axford fans either?  Those two combined to hand Pittsburgh 11 of their 13 runs.

Eleven.

Oh, and they did it all in four innings combined.

Bergman only held on for 3 2/3 an inning before getting the hook for his 10 hit, 7 earned evening.  Then Walt brought in six more pitchers who combine to only give up TWO hits and no runs to give the Rox a chance.

Dickerson and Murphy tried like hell to take that chance.  Those two combined to go 5 for 9 with 2 HR’s and 5 RBI’s, trying their hardest to put the team on their back and win one gosh darn it.

If only Axford didn’t mess it up.  If only if only if only.  If he’d shut them down then maybe Dickerson’s RBI double would have tied it up and who knows, perhaps we’d be ticking off another walk-off on the RWO counter right about now.

THe Pirates contingent was loud and proud at Coors last night, I was sitting nearby a bunch of them.

I’m OK handing the playoffs to the the Pirates. Keep hating to do the same with LA and/or SF.

Let’s leave Bergman as the long reliever. Given our starting pitching, we need a solid long reliever. There was an article in today’s Denver Post about our starting pitching for next year. It was a really dumb article in that it said that we have 12 candidates, but that isn’t true. It counted Kendrick, and we know he’s not coming back. It included Bergman, who did poorly last night and might be better suited for the long relief job, and… Read more »

We have 12 candidates to be the #5 starter (by the standards of the other 29 major league teams). We may get really lucky and one may emerge as a #4 (again, by other team’s standards). But for next year (Jon Gray will take time), there is no #1, #2, or #3.

JDLR will be a #3 level pitcher and maybe #2 at Coors home field.
