It looks like the rotation is almost set: JDLR, Anderson, Chatwood, Morales or Lyles, and Nicasio. That would mean Nicasio is being set up to be the Coors Field Opening Day starter.
With three lefties I don’t understand not rotating L-R-L-R-L like teams often try to do with batting order.

Never quite have understood the venom that has always been directed at Frankie Morales on this site. What exactly is it he’s done in the past that makes him such a despised individual? Does the fact he was an important cog in the run to Rocktober in ’07 not buy him any equity? Has he ever been arrested or made any controversial comments? All that’s happened to him is he’s been jerked around between the BP and the starting rotation… Read more »
I don’t appreciate players with $100 arms and 10 cent heads. Morales is as fragile a pitcher I’ve ever seen for the Rockies until a guy named Jeremy Guthrie.

Cisco, I think for me at least it is having such high hopes because he does have some sick stuff, but it seemed like the majority of times he came into a game with it close and something happened other than a strike out (passed ball, balk call, walk, etc.) he would severely lose focus and rarely finish out the inning…I don’t know the statistics, but it seemed to be more like that then it did him closing out an… Read more »
Jared, well said. Couldn’t have replied much better to Cisco. I’d add this: I have stated more than once that I was (*was*) Franklin’s biggest fan and waited a long time for him to find consistent use of his brilliance without an equal number of flameouts. I think it’s a fair point by Cisco about being bounced around between the pen and starting, but that’s a circular argument also – it leads right back to Frankie himself contributing to that,… Read more »

Jaredean,
You are right on being somewhat let down, by Franklin. However, I have felt letdown by a huge amount of Rockies players and management and I am optimistic about the season. You have to let go of what went before or you will end up having such a full plate you will not even be able to lift it:-)
Julie, i completely see what you are saying, but for some reason Frankie has a different spot in my mind than the rest of the “letdown” team. I see the players out there working hard and for the most part not taking a part in self-destructive behavior. The front office is letting us down daily, but the players are for the most part trying to do well with what they have. Sure, they might not run it out full-on Cuddy… Read more »
JD, You don’t think maturity has a lot to do with it? Not all players are created equally, be it talent, smarts, or the journey they took to get to the Bigs. The mistake that is often made is to paint all players with the same brush, specifically the Latin players. Don’t we think that the Latin players have a much tougher road to get to the big leagues? Let’s see how Frankie handles himself the second go-around with the… Read more »

I’m trying to be neutral and balanced on Kerosene. While I’m nowhere near the skills of a professional scout, I thought Kerosene was very steady emotionally and repeating his delivery when he got himself into jams. He wasn’t circling the mound nor dropping his shoulders when things go bad while showing more pitchability. I saw the new mature Morales in the two starts I watched him make during my week in Scottsdale. It can be attributed to the fact that… Read more »

Cisco and RMH call it maturity, I call it “pitching as if your major league future depends on it.” Frankie’s a free agent after this year. Pitch surprisingly well? Earn yourself 3 years and 15 million bucks or something like that, even more if you are a reasonably effective 4th/5th starter. (The price of mediocrity is pretty amazing). Pitch like crap? Get yourself a non-roster invite next spring. That’s what I call motivation. Cisco, I would like them to make… Read more »

Chatty pitched a scoreless six innings against the Giants’ AAA team in Tuesday night’s scrimmage. 0 walks and 5 strikeouts on just 72 pitches (51 strikes).
Rut continues to make strides and now batting over .300 in ST.

Just saw Renck tweet Chacin’s timeline more like early May (which seems far more realistic to me……IMO so many of the pitchers are attempting comebacks too quickly).
Relevant to this conversation – this may give the Morales/Nicasio situation more time to sort out, and may also enhance Kahlne’s chances in a roundabout sort of way.

Better Nicasio than kerosine.
