Quick Start’s a Memory

The Colorado Rockies got a double-dose of reality yesterday evening.  They found-out a) What it’s like to play a Champion, and b) What happens when you bumble around and play like a bunch of doofs.  Add to that what it feels like to be made fools-of.

They turn to veteran Jeff Francis (1-0, 1.50) to wash the stink away in a 1:45 pm MDT contest at San Francisco’s AT+T Park.  He’ll face Barry Zito (1-0, 0.00) in a battle of left-handers.  Francis sparkled last Friday in the home opener at Coors Field, turning in 6 innings of 1-run, 5-hit ball.  Zito was better versus St. Louis, logging 7 shut-out frames on 3 hits.

Rockies’ manager Walt Weiss will run-out the same group that bungled matters Tuesday, except Jordan Pacheco replaces slumping Todd Helton at 1st-base.  It’s Helton’s third day-off of the last four.  Buster Posey is back at catcher for Bruce Bochy’s Giants, and Joaquin Arias is in at 3rd-base for the Kung-Fu Panda.

There will be a fairly significant 10-12 MPH wind blowing-out to right-field on an otherwise lovely 72° afternoon in the China Basin.  Humidity will be pushing 50%.  No day game black-out for Rockies fans today.

Jeff and Drew will bring you all the action on ROOT.  Jerry and Jack will be over on 850 am KOA, as always.

Hopefully the Rox can get back on track. Get a win today and it will help going to SD, getting swept will be a huge confidence buster. Need Francis to be on his game, cuz I just don’t see the Rox scoring more than 4 runs max.

WW can’t win with no pitching any more than JT can. What if they moved Geivitt out of the clubhouse and moved in a good pitcher?

Move in Mark Wiley.

So, I wasn’t delusional to think we’d win the series, but was it too much to ask to not be completely embarrassed?

At what point does this team tire of being the Giants’ little rag doll and actually put up some fight.

I suspect this series could be the tipping point toward the unmotivated season. You can’t get kicked around this bad and then pretend its just 1 game or 1 series, particularly if you go down meekly.

I thought the Rox played pretty good in game 1, no problem with that performance. Last night I thought they showed up but just didn’t have a good game plan and didn’t execute. They just flat didn’t even care today, oh I hope they can rebound and rebound soon starting in SD or I fear what you do Prog, this might be the undoing of the season.

I expect a roster move by the Rox before the SD series and have Outman come up to help the BP. I see either Volstad or Ottavino being sent down. They don’t have a long man out of the pen that’s well rested since Volstad, Ottavino, & Escalona all pitched today. Since CS has been postponed the past couple of days, Outman is well rested.

And Zito blanks us again. You’d think that the Rockies would have some clue of who to play who can hit Zito’s garbage. Maybe Helton should’ve gone today — if he can’t catch up with Zito’s stuff we’d know he’s done. Volstad: we really shouldn’t be surprised that he’s sucked, since he’s now put up the following ERAs in his major league career: 2.88 (in 2008) 5.21 4.58 4.89 6.31 He’s now at a cool 10.38. No, he’s not that… Read more »

Had high hopes for Volstad since he is only 26,but am ready to see him go.As I said in other thread-use Harang if he’s ready. He has some very good games in SD in the past so start him and see what he’s got left. This years Millwood[?],and another veteran pro attitude to eat innings and add stability. We own him-use him!

Now for the good news: day off, followed by 7 in a row against equally crappy teams (Padres/Mets).

I’m not discounting the Mets.
