The L may be in Kahnle’s column, but it deserves to be squarely sitting on Rex Brothers head.
The Rockies were one inning out, shoot one pitch away from their first sweep of the season. Unfortunately, Brothers proved he doesn’t read RWO when he offered up a hittable pitch with two outs on an 0-2 count…TWICE!
You could almost hear EdTheUmp screaming from his lazy chair at the knuckle-headed move. The first 0-2 hittable pitch went to Owings, who took it for a double, and then to Prado who tied up the game with one swing.
CarGo got the scoring started with a two run shot off Collmenter in the top of the first, bringing home Stubbs who had singled in front of him. It was CarGo’s only hit of the game, but it was nice to see him finding his stroke. The team scored again in the third on a solo shot by Jordan Lyles and a wild pitch score from Charlie Blackmon.
The score could have been 5-0 after the third, but a bad call on Pacheco killed a run. Jordan was at third after hitting a double and stealing a bag. DJ flew out fairly deep to right and Jordan was called safe at home. That is until they DBacks appealed and the third base ump said Pacheco left early. Replay’s showed he clearly waited and should have been safe, but the call isn’t reviewable by the new system and the extra run was cancelled, the potential run needed to keep the Rockies alive at the end.
OTHER NOTES: Nolan Arenado extended his hit streak to 20 with a single in the sixth.
