Rex Ruins Rox Broomin’

The L may be in Kahnle’s column, but it deserves to be squarely sitting on Rex Brothers head.

The Rockies were one inning out, shoot one pitch away from their first sweep of the season.  Unfortunately, Brothers proved he doesn’t read RWO when he offered up a hittable pitch with two outs on an 0-2 count…TWICE!

You could almost hear EdTheUmp screaming from his lazy chair at the knuckle-headed move. The first 0-2 hittable pitch went to Owings, who took it for a double, and then to Prado who tied up the game with one swing.

CarGo got the scoring started with a two run shot off Collmenter in the top of the first, bringing home Stubbs who had singled in front of him.  It was CarGo’s only hit of the game, but it was nice to see him finding his stroke.  The team scored again in the third on a solo shot by Jordan Lyles and a wild pitch score from Charlie Blackmon.

The score could have been 5-0 after the third, but a bad call on Pacheco killed a run.  Jordan was at third after hitting a double and stealing a bag.  DJ flew out fairly deep to right and Jordan was called safe at home.  That is until they DBacks appealed and the third base ump said Pacheco left early.  Replay’s showed he clearly waited and should have been safe, but the call isn’t reviewable by the new system and the extra run was cancelled, the potential run needed to keep the Rockies alive at the end.

COL 2 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 4 8 0
ARI 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 2 1 5 8 0

OTHER NOTES: Nolan Arenado extended his hit streak to 20 with a single in the sixth.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but “velocity, velocity, velocity.”

Something is wrong (other than a high ERA!) with Brothers.

I was switching between this and the AVS game–UGGH—and juggling the 4 yr old so may have missed it if they talked about it….but why no Hawk? Because he went a few previous days in a row? I wondered that (probably like all of you) when Rexy came in….

Most fans don’t realize that you also have to count the warm up pitches on top of the game pitches.

On a happier note, Belisle looked great after the four pitch walk to start his inning. We may need three closer types if Hawk is too old to pitch much and Brothers is having issues:-)

I like the fight in this team, but it still lacks the killer instinct. The score could have been 7-0 after with another key hit here or there.

Off on a tangent again. All-Star voting has begun. I normally to get wound up about this…..its a popularity contest to win a starting spot…..I get that. BUT, this year is different. The Rox promotional staff needs to go all-in on a Nolan Arenado campaign. He’s clearly the best NL 3rd baseman. But, he’s up against the SF (Fat Panda) and StL (Carpenter – he’s legit at 2nd, not at 3rd, and I’m not sure where he’s listed) fan voting… Read more »

I think by the end of the game it was just Agbayani and I posting and let me be honest… you could not have paid me to do the write-up jaredean. That game just stunk. The stolen run early – if they are going to allow umpires to make that call 300 feet from the play but not the video review judge…then after being a supporter of IR I am not anymore. Ridiculous. Game changed there because Collmenter survived the… Read more »
