Rockies Aim to Remain Relevant in May

The Rockies ended April with its share of ups and downs, but at the end of the day they are tied for first place in the NL West with a 11-12 record.  They flip the calendar and club history says their April mojo usually ends when the Coors Field effect grab ahold of the pitchers and hitters.  The nice thing about May is that the Rockies have two ten-day trips and there will be no more three-city trips beyond May.  Colorado is currently on the first long trip with a chance to sweep the D-backs in the desert before heading to San Diego and San Francisco.  The ten-day trip later this month will be a major test of whether Colorado is a total bust or relevant when they visit three top teams on the trip east – St. Louis, Pittsburgh, and Boston.

In an attempt to bring out the brooms today, Colorado rolls with the same lineup except Tony Wolters and Ben Paulsen are in for Nick Hundley and Mark Reynolds.  Walt Weiss is trying to add a couple more LH bats to counter Shelby Miller.  Chad Bettis, possibly the best SP, will toe the rubber in an attempt to do better than his first start against Arizona in the first week of April.
