Walt Weiss has announced that LaTroy Hawkins will be removed as a closer for the foreseeable future. If a closer is needed today, he will hand the ball to Rafael Betancourt. With that statement, it is clear that Bill Geivett was holding the puppet strings in the last few years. The move would not have happened had BG been still in his office next to the clubhouse. WW is clearly enjoying his freedom to handle the team now. He isn’t messing around the potential to give back a few games. He is in the win now mode in the early going.
