Rockies Doomed by Cutch

The headline and photo says it all.  Andrew McCutcheon hit three HRs for five RBI.  David Freese and Starling Marte also had solo blasts.  The Rockies lost for a lot of reasons.  JDLR can’t go any further than three innings.  The good news is that he is likely to get a much needed relief by injuring his groin busting up the line on a grounder.

Christian Bergman almost went three innings of shutout ball, but ran out of gas after 2.2 IP and giving up a three-run blast to Cutch.  Gonzalez Germen gave up a solo shot but Gopherg did pitch two innings and ZERO gopher balls served.

Colorado offensively had a ton of chances to get back in the game but went just 1-7 in the RISP department.  It didn’t help that the Rockies were using a Sunday lineup today.  Might as well throw it away against Gerritt Cole.

I’m very glad that JDLR pitched tonight instead of tomorrow as I will be heading to Coors Field using that new A-train to get there.  Jon Gray pitching which means he will be hunting strikeouts unlike any other Rox pitcher when in a difficult situation.

I’m having trouble with this new layout. All, or almost all, of my posts disappear. So a quick note which hopefully will appear. Walt’s appeal of Parra getting thrown out, and he clearly was out, cost the Rocks a chance to appeal DJ’s slide home in which he was safe. So Huson and Goodman were wrong (big surprise) when they said what’s their to lose. But Walt is getting big bucks to understand that you better be sure. But he… Read more »

Weird thing about the new site – when I open (or go) to a new tab in the middle of writing a comment, the comment disappears. (I do that a lot because I’m always looking up stats). Umpiring: balls and strikes calls are just ridiculous. I know Ed will disagree, but the time has come: we need to shift to an automated balls and strikes system with the home plate ump there just to determine other stuff, like whether a… Read more »

Mentioned Phil Nevin yesterday in another thread (as a potential Manager). Followed that up with some actual research (instead of seat-of-the-pants relying on memory from someone 50+ – no always reliable) and fund the following from “Rant Sports” on Phil Nevin AND Doug Mientkiewicz. This is from an article on up-and-coming Minor League Managers. I vaguely remember Mientkiewicz as a player. Love the description of him as a Manager: “Phil Nevin — Triple-A Reno Aces (Arizona Diamondbacks) manager After a… Read more »

Regarding the new site and idiosyncrasies – it is a little wonky and I have experienced the “missing comment” phenomena as I tab back and forth between open pages. Truth be told – my problems are generally more about me going way too fast on my iphone or ipad coupled with the automatic spell correct and me not proofreading. So……it’s mostly my fault.

All of my brilliant comments disappear! That’s why you all only see the dumb posts…. How quickly things can change, before the Dodgers series I was feeling very good about this team, now…. Weiss needs to go.

Leader of the team– Weiss blah, in my opinion lacks killer that drive to win or killer instinct.
leader of pitching staff- DLR fragile, head case, in my opinion a crappy attitude.

This team needs new leadership at both of those spots immediately!

Things that make you go hmmmmm…..

Going back to working within the confines of the current 40 man roster and knowing that the Big P needs some DL time, one name jumps out at me – “German Marquez.”

In my opinion. I’d rather see him get a few more starts in Hartford, then move to ABQ. But…….our options (within the confines of the current 40 man roster) are somewhat limited.

Our friends at Purple Row are reporting Eddie Butler will be called up to take Big P’s spot on the roster. I agree with Ag when he says Bergman isn’t a Major League pitcher. That being said – if I’m GM (of course this means the BSCS will do the exact opposite) and grounded in the fact that my team sucks and we’re rebuilding, I slot Bergman into JDLR’s slot and start using Butler as a RP immediately. GM SDCarp… Read more »
