Colorado opened the game with six straight hits and jumped to a 4-0 lead before holding on to win 6-4. @chuck_nazty and Deej started the game with singles before Tulo swatted the ball outta there for three runs. Three more hits added another run in the first inning. Arizona had a solo homer from Yasmany Tomas in the second to reduce the deficit to 4-1. Vintage CarGo hit an opposite field two run homer in the sixth to stretch the lead to 6-1 before Tomas had a sac fly on a great big-inning saved catch by the diving Brandon Barmes.
Of course Rockies’ bad bullpen made things interesting in the last three innings save for LaTroy Hawkins clean 7th inning work. Scott Gopherg struggled in the eighth giving up two runs on three hits getting only one out. Thomas Kahnle and Boone Logan came in to close out the inning despite Kahnle adding another runner via a free pass. Then Boone Logan struck out David Peralta for the third out. John Axford got everyone a little nervous with two on and Goldy with the winning run up at the plate. And the mighty Goldy went down with a swinging strike to end the game.
Colorado returns home for Tuesday’s game against the Angels. The bats will likely return to earth scoring three runs or less in all home games leading up to the all star break. Jorge De La Rosa is now 4-1 in five starts on the road with a 1.67 ERA. If Colorado could have five DLRs in the rotation, the season would be entirely different.
