Rockies Slug Past Arizona, 6-4

Colorado opened the game with six straight hits and jumped to a 4-0 lead before holding on to win 6-4.  @chuck_nazty and Deej started the game with singles before Tulo swatted the ball outta there for three runs.  Three more hits added another run in the first inning.  Arizona had a solo homer from Yasmany Tomas in the second to reduce the deficit to 4-1.  Vintage CarGo hit an opposite field two run homer in the sixth to stretch the lead to 6-1 before Tomas had a sac fly on a great big-inning saved catch by the diving Brandon Barmes.

Of course Rockies’ bad bullpen made things interesting in the last three innings save for LaTroy Hawkins clean 7th inning work.  Scott Gopherg struggled in the eighth giving up two runs on three hits getting only one out.  Thomas Kahnle and Boone Logan came in to close out the inning despite Kahnle adding another runner via a free pass.  Then Boone Logan struck out David Peralta for the third out.  John Axford got everyone a little nervous with two on and Goldy with the winning run up at the plate.  And the mighty Goldy went down with a swinging strike to end the game.

Colorado returns home for Tuesday’s game against the Angels.  The bats will likely return to earth scoring three runs or less in all home games leading up to the all star break.  Jorge De La Rosa is now 4-1 in five starts on the road with a 1.67 ERA.  If Colorado could have five DLRs in the rotation, the season would be entirely different.

With respect to Ed the Ump, I think big pussy should be called professional pitcher. The ROX have an amazing winning percentage when JDLR or Chettis start and suck with all others.

gary… Big P is a very good #3 in any rotation in MLB. With that being said, I wonder how much better he could/would be by just getting on the rubber and become a pitcher. His gestures and physical machinations out there detract from the job he has to do. His body language screams “nothing is going right out here for me!” His “finger problems” will always cloud my thinking as the next pitch he throws could be his last… Read more »

I read he has been using super glue to heal it and for bull pens but as you know that is illegal for game day.Supposedly Moise Alou used to urinate on his hands and let it dry to toughen up the skin so he could bat without gloves! Needless to say none of his teammates congradulated him by shaking his hand.Maybe JDLR should take this approach and get out of your dog house…or is that cat house..?

Gary… Good one! Big P is in my cat house. I have an observation IF he indeed uses super glue, it will not let the finger heal naturally so using SG does no good. In my HS days we used a product called Tuf-Skin which “toughened up” the area needed to be treated. That is legal as it’s a spray…don’t know if it’s still made but it would be worth his time to check it out…I’ll bet they have something… Read more »

Why is Oberg and his 6.00 ERA still with the club while Miller and his 1.50 ERA was sent down?

I thought Miller did a good job and pitched on successive days even.Oberg’s stuff moves all over the place and could be great if he could back off alittle and control it better.

Nice Hang-on-by-the-Fingernails win. Oberg is a self-imposed calamity and needs to be re-directed to AAA. Descalso had several “uh-oh” moments, I don’t see why another of the farm hands can’t be called up and given an opportunity.
