The Rockies have finally made a couple of moves that the RWOers have been screaming for weeks. Jon Garland was designated for assignment and Jeff Francis is taking Garland’s spot on the pitching staff. While Garland did pitch as expected, it was with the expectation that the Rockies are playing for next year. But they are in the thick of the race and we changed to the win now mode instead of building mode. We have to thank him for being a professional. Remember he put up five doughnuts after giving up four runs in the first inning in his final start. That was a huge contribution even if it meant just one more “W” for the team.
Troy Renck had a terse tweet earlier this afternoon, “Colvin here.” The next tweet from Troy added, “Colvin: I know I am major league player. I just had to have fun and work. This is where I want to be.” The transaction is not official yet, but we can safely assume Colvin will be added to the 25-man squad. The question will be for whom? If it is based on last night’s performance, it may be either Rob Scahill or EYJ. The Rockies are also considering putting Chatwood on DL to make room for Colvin. Don’t fret if Chatwood goes on the DL as it would be retroactive, meaning he would miss only one more start after today’s missed start.
Update: CarGo is in today’s lineup.
