Tulo and Dex are missing from tonight’s lineup, but Dex is the only on that has a chance of coming back anytime soon. Tulo is out 4-6 weeks with rib issues.
Thankfully Cargo is in the lineup after taking a foul ball off the foot in yesterday’s loss.

This Nicasio thing must be mental. It just does not make sense.
Here’s what I would do.
Rotation:
Chacin
DLR
Oswalt
Chatwood
Nicasio 1-5 Francis 6-9.
On the Nicasio/Francis split start, unless its a tight game in the 9th you do not burn a bullpen member. Thus it gives the entire pen a day of rest every night.
I mean every week.
So, you’re proposing a bull pen guy that can only be used once every five days?
Yep. The kicker is that it means the other 5 bullpen guys get to rest an extra day.
You trade 1 roster spot for the benefit of many.
I think that’s a brilliant idea.
I also think Nicasio, Scahill, and Wilton Lopez are our weak links on the staff. To say the least.
Wilton Lopez: poor results this year, small sample size, component stats about that same as ever, very successful reliever the last 3 years. I need evidence to the contrary before I call him a “weak link.” Weiss, I know you want to give up on him, but you can’t! The alternative is Manny Corpas/Rob Scahill. Let’s not go there.
This is a “facts versus perception” problem I have, but Lopez was touted as our 8th inning guy and he appears — in a small sample size — as a liability not an asset. He has 4 blown saves in 36 appearances and 15 in 248 for his career. So: pretty average for him. He has 4 holds in those 37 games, which is about average for his career. And Corpas is obviously worse. I like Prog’s idea. Two pitchers… Read more »
Guys, if we only slightly less pathetic we’d actually be in first place by now.
which means the entire NL West is bordering on pathetic?
Prog, thanks for not using that dirty word-piggyback.Saw this suggestion in today’s post and think it’s worth a try.Otherwise,Nicascio down to CS and give Pom his annual shot at living up to his Ubaldo trade hype.Since Francis is relatively unflappable, try him out of the pen and bring on Oswalt and hope he has something left in the tank.Without a shake up I fear this is the beginning of the nearly annual June swoon!
It will be interesting to see what happens with the rotation. Oswalt’s opt out day is Tuesday. The talking heads, sourcing the DP, is that after his performance yesterday, he is coming. He did have a great game but will it translate? I hope so. Is he truly ready? Having someone that might be able to go 8 innings would be a novel idea.
