Rox Begin West Coast Swing Against Giants

Colorado will play the Giants in the first game of this 3-game series to kickoff the second week of the 2013 season.  This marks the first time the Rockies and Giants have played at San Francisco since the Giants swept the Rockies in a four-game series 9/17-20/12.  The Rockies won their fifth-straight game yesterday by completing a three-game sweep of the Padres with a 9-1 victory.  2013 marks the first time the Rockies have won each of their first two series of the season since 1995, when the Rockies won each of their first three series to begin that campaign.  Colorado last started the season 5-1 in 1995, when the club began the season 7-1.  The Rockies current five-game winning streak is the club’s first since 8/19-23/12, which was the Rockies longest winning streak last season.

The Rockies went 4-14 against the Giants in 2012, including just 2-7 here at AT&T Park.  The Rockies are 54-107 all-time in San Francisco, as well as 41-75 all-time at AT&T Park.  The Rockies will be looking for their first series win at AT&T Park since 5/31-6/2/10, when the Rockies took 2-of-3 games from the Giants.

• LHP Jorge De La Rosa will make second start of the season.  De La Rosa is 3-2 with a 2.58 ERA (38.1 ip, 11 er) in 7 career games, 6 starts at AT&T Park.
• LHP Madison Bumgarner will make his second start of 2013 as well.  The lefty is 5-3 with a 2.39 ERA (67.2 ip, 18 er) in 11 career starts vs. COL.

The Rockies received their fifth quality start of the season yesterday when Jhoulys Chacin allowed just one run in 6.2 innings. Chacin’s performance lowered the ERA for Rockies starters this season to 2.78 (35.2 ip, 11 er). The Rox 2.78 starters ERA is the fifth-lowest mark among NL teams. The starters pitching line through six games is: 4-0, 2.78 ERA (35.2 ip, 11 er), 11 walks, 20 strikeouts, .237 average against.  The four wins for the Rox starters is tied with the Dodgers for the most in the NL, while they are also one of only two teams without a loss by their starters through the seasons first week (Cincinnati 3-0 from starters).

Cuddyer is playing today, answering the question about his injury being serious, and he will be at first while his position in right will be covered by EYj.

I kind of expected Cargo to sit tonight personally and am not surprised Helton is out for the 2nd straight game. Maybe this means Cargo will sit Wednesday’s game(day game after a night game, get away day, and facing a lefty in Zito). Not hoping for that, but expecting it. Hopefully the all righty lineup, except Cargo, will produce against a tough lefty tonight.

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
