The latest report for Christian Bergman is that he has broken bone near thumb. We have to reach deep into our bag of pitchers and start 12th different pitcher of the season. It is highly probable that Yohan Flande will be taking Bergman’s place. As for tonight’s game, it will be that veteran crafty southpaw worthy of a #5 pitcher on some days and #1 on other days. Drum roll – Jorge De La Rosa! He needs to open his mental closet and find that “it” factor to counter Shelby Miller who starts for the St. Louis Cardinals.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Rockies need to triple or quadruple their output from last night and hit at least .400 in RISP situations. Corey Dickerson currently has the “it” factor. Will the other hitters be able to find the “it” as well tonight?
Bo McLaughlin plans to put Franklin Morales and Jhoulys Chacin in the closet and lock them up for tonight and tomorrow. The Cardinals have the fewest home runs of all teams and yet the Chacin/Morales combo continued to serve balls on a platter to everyone (including pitchers, hitters who have less than 5 career HRs, and pinch hitters) as a courtesy.
In other news down on the farm: Rosell Herrera was selected to play in the 2014 Futures Game and he will play on the international team (Dominican Republic). Kyle Freeland (Rockies’ #1, 8th overall) will make his first professional start on July 9th in Grand Junction.
