I see that I just jinxed it. Phillies manage to eek out a run on the always thrilling ground ball to 2B force out.

Not impressed with the game calling during the 9th inning. Unwilling to waste the vaunted bat of Charlie Culberson with a bunt. Ask him to hit away, striking out, yet you risk the runner at 1st on a stolen base attempt.

Could have been runner on 2nd and 1 out. Instead no one on with 2 outs. Of course, according to all the “experts”, bunts are wasted outs.

Prog, you’re right. Bunting the runner over, particularly with a weak hitter like Culberson at the plate, was the right move. But I disagree with your last comment. If by the “experts” you mean the sabermetric crowd, this is a situation where the numbers show that when “playing for just one run” (to tie it up), the chances of scoring that one run go up with a runner at 2nd and one out as opposed to a runner at first… Read more »

I’ve been away for a week plus and got back tonight to watch bits and pieces of the game. But did get to see the last two innings. I think the Rockies lost the game in the 8th with Helton’s strikeout even though they still had a chance with Arenado .
