Rox Look to Extend Losing Streak vs. Kershaw

The Rockies have three games left, including tonight, to extend their losing streak and fall back to 7.5 games out of first at the all star break. The Rox are merely going to treat those last three games as spring training games to prepare for the second half.

The management of the game continues to be inept; Charley Blackmon is starting in RF batting left on left (Kershaw) over the right handed Money. Jordan Pacheco will start at first base in lieu of the Toddfather. Juan Nicasio has returned to the big club going on the bump against the Puig Dweebs. Pom Pom was sent back to Tulsa for one start and he will be coming back after the break according to Walt Weiss. His biggest challenge is to be mentally tough.

If the Rockies win any one of the final three, it will be the equivalent of a 0-11 Slippery Rock football team upsetting #1 Michigan in Ann Arbor. One only needs to bet a quarter in Las Vegas and the payoff will be $100 for a victory in any of the three games. The payoff will be even bigger if the Rockies score over three runs total over the final three games.

But we all expected a disappointing season, and I submit it has been marginally better than expected. So if throwing in the towel is in order than lets back another small market team like the Pirates or Indians. The rust belt is as maligned by east coast media as the mountain time zone is invisible.

Yes, and I submit MUCH better than expected for the most part. I’d love to see the Pirates go far (but my heart’s not in it…)

I too am baffled by Blackmon over Money in right. And great writeup RMH. Excellent use of sarcasm 🙂

The streak took a lot of energy out of Money and he deserves a break. Odds against Kerhsaw tonight are minimal anyway so save $$$ for the weekend. Blackmon needs an opportunity. The last couple of games have yielded both positive and negative results for him but mostly positive. This is a show of confidence by WW and I think Blackmon will respond. At least he’s a gamer and willing to work his butt off–wish I could say the same… Read more »

Pacheco: really nice year last season, really awful year this season. What’s up? Dig beneath the surface and the answer is “nothing.” It’s all Batting Average on Balls in Play (BABIP). It’s not just luck for hitters (there is a sustainable year to year skill), but last year his BABIP was .344. This year? .270. 74 points worse. And guess what? Last year his regular batting average was .309. This year, .233. 76 points worse. In other words, it fully… Read more »

Could be the Sophomore slump we always hear about. Scouting reports catch up to rookies. It’s how those guys readjust which proves how much of a ML career they’ll have.

Good to see Blackmon breakin’ out tonight vs CK but the story is in Nicasio. After that start in Sky Sox South he right the ship quite well. How he goes forward will be interesting. Taking a 3-0 lead into the 9th vs Cy Kershaw can’t hurt their psyche.

Ag… if ever you’ve written anything better than JP’s performance scenario above I’d like to see it. The non-SABR fans are really missing out by not “getting into it” as far as a real “look in” at the game within the game is concerned, IMO. The BABIP and OBP is what I take a hard look at…the(and I don’t have the acronym for it)% of swings at strikes vs swing at pitches out of the strike zone is another stat… Read more »

What a crazy game, baseball. “Just when I was out, they pull me back in.”. Nicasio far outduels Kershaw. Blackmon puts on his Cuddy outfit. Shut out the Bums. Whoooee.

Let’s put Money at first and Blackmon in RF for the rest of the year and see what happens. Blackmon’s 12-pitch at bat vs Kershaw proves he is a hitter, not a swinger so is exactly the type of hitter we need(slump or no slump, power or no power)…Helton for PHing and defense and to give Money a rest once or twice a week…Money in RF once a week to give Blackmon a rest, etc. and our offense and batting… Read more »
