Rox Look to Split Amid Turmoil

The Colorado Rockies will send another left-hander to the mound this afternoon, Josh Outman (0-3, 8.64), to face the Washington Nationals and Edwin Jackson (4-4, 2.91), as they attempt to salvage the final game of the four-game set and achieve a series’ sweep despite the past two contests’ carnage.  The game is expected to start under partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low 90’s.  Skies will turn cloudy shortly after gametime with a 30% chance of thundershowers.

Rockies management is facing a thunderstorm of its own, struggling to maintain amid increasing calls for its demise, while juggling the resignation (to call it what it was) of pitching coach Bob Apodaca and his replacement by Bo McLaughlin, the conference call with season ticket holders, promotion of Edwar Cabrera from AA Tulsa to replace Alex White, and yet another disastrous start, this one by Cabrera, punctuating a 23-run/35 hit barrage by the Nationals Tuesday and Wednesday.  The conference call featured a scientific rationale for the 4-man/75-pitch rotation concept by BIB Dan O’Dowd, who seems to be taking ownership of it, along with the disturbing news of Jorge de la Rosa’s continuing elbow trouble.

Outman is coming off a relatively effective start last Saturday in the Rockies 11-7 victory over Texas, although he lost it soon after surpassing the 75-pitch limit, and stirred-up some controversy when he left the mound in anger.  Jackson has been effective for Washington in 2012, but has pitched poorly at Coors Field, giving-up a Rockies-like 21 runs over 12 innings in three starts.

There is no television for today’s game.  Radio as always is am 850 KOA.  Lineups were not available as of noon MDT.

Jeem…in addition to your journalistic skills, you’ve got a little Stormy Rottman weather forecaster in you. Nice weather related tie-in to the current struggles of the team.

Off topic. The Brewers have claimed Hector Gomez off waivers from the Rockies. Lots of talent but he could never stay healthy. This will open a space on the 40 man roster.

Gee,only took eleven runs to win, nothing to it! Why does it seem the more interesting games are the ones not televised? That’s the second or third one this year that I’d have actually not turned off by the fifth inning[probably].

Gary you got to ask yourself … would you still have been watching? I was frustrated enough listening let alone watching or being there. Sure they won, great, but the fact is they blew a 7-0 lead. I’m sure they still lead the majors in blowing leads of 3 runs or more
