Losing one game in 162 isn’t that big of a deal. Losing one pitcher in five, that’s a whole different story. Especially when said pitcher has been the best on the staff since his mid-season call-up.
Tyler Chatwood felt some “startling” pain in his right triceps during the Rockies 3-0 shutout at the hands of the Reds. He lasted only four innings and left with only one run on the board and 4 K’s. Sadly he was saddled with the loss because the team went colder than a Colorado April.
The only hits came from Cargo (2), Cuddy and Helton. One of CarGo’s hits came via a 2 out bunt, masterfully put down the third base side in the first. It was wasted by Tulo, who ground into an out with the next at bat.
Monday night did see the return of Manny Corpas, who hasn’t pitched for the Rockies since being released in 2010. Corpas was a bit shaky in his 1/3 of an inning, giving up a hit and a walk, but thankfully exiting with no damage done.
Looks like the longball went right to Dex’s head as I believe all his outs were flyballs! On the road, against a junk baller a bunt[like Cargo] would be a good move by your lead off hitter. If one believes in conspiracy theories than Chatwoods sudden injury-just as Francis comes off the DL-could raise some eyebrows. If Garland suddenly stubs his toe, with Oswalt in the wings,it might be a conspiracy I could live with.
Nice job by Scahill.
I am so out-of-it sometimes: thought Reds were having an “off year!”. 36-22? Not bad.
No – the Reds/Cards match in the NL Central will be epic for the entire season. They are both so good. I thought the Braves were also on that level, but their bullpen has been destroyed by injuries and BJ Upton and Jason Heyward have sucked – so I think the Reds/Cards are 1/2 in the NL.
Jaradeen: actually Corpas pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up a walk and a hit before getting one out. His ERA is at .000 but it was NOT an impressive performance. Rockies need to get another hitter on the bench and say goodbye to this hundred man bullpen or 13. The bench last night consisted of EY, Pacheco, Yorvit and Johnny H. Not a power bat in the bunch. I would bring up at least one guy probably Colvin… Read more »
Thanks for the clarification bill…I’ve updated the text above…i wasn’t able to see the inning he came in, so i went by the MLB.com Box Score and either misread it or they changed it after i looked…
And don’t mind Pooter below – i can’t prove it, but i honestly think it is EYj under an alias 🙂
I would dump you Bill!
