The Colorado Rockies rolled to another victory by a 5-2 score over the Milwaukee Brewers. It is the first 2-0 start to the season since 2001. In addition they tied the major league record for most doubles by a team since 1900. Lost in the record setting performance was the fact that the Rockies set a club record for most scoreless innings to start the season with 13. In the process, they picked up their first road series win of the season no matter how Eddie Butler pitches.
The Rockies have played a very sound baseball over the first two games. Two straight quality starts. Bullpen 8 Ks and 0 BB over 5 innings. No TOOTBLANs. Zero Es. No WP and no PB. 2 HBP which is too many for 2 games. We haven’t even needed John Axford, Brooks Brown, and Christian Bergman with the day off coming Thursday.
The Rockies after a quiet start to the game got five runs in the middle three innings. Fine China, CarGo, NoDo, and Corey Dickerson did their usual work at the office tonight with a barrage of doubles. It is nice to produce runs without a need for the long ball. The offense recorded just six strikeouts tonight, two by the pitcher and one by a pinch hitter (I don’t really count them).
Enjoy the victory parade for another 24 hours.
