Yup, I heard that last night watching the MLBN news. So I’ve got it scheduled for DVR recording.

Any thoughts on the idea of adding a pitcher for home series’? My initial reaction is that adding an Aaa or worse arm to Coors Field isn’t an equation for success. I do want out of the box thinking to some degree however. Here is my proposal, but not sure if logistically it could be done: pitch your best starter ONLY at home. It may mean working in a 6th starter on the road, where he will fair better than… Read more »

I think it is a great idea. It is not so much about the quality of the arm. It is more of bullpen help so we don’t wear down the arms early and often. The starters at Coors usually don’t last as long as on the road so we need to work more bullpen innings. It would be a perfect situation for us to test the “next up” pitcher without throwing them in the fire. Like a Tyler Anderson or… Read more »

I’m all for experimentation (I think I was one of the few who actually wanted them to stick to the 4 man rotation), but this “add a pitcher for home stands” thing sounds like an awful lot of shuttling players around for minimal (if any) gain. If you’re optioning a player he has to stay down for 10 days. After a quick glance at the schedule, I see the following 10-day home stands: 1in April 0 in May 1 in… Read more »

Unfortunately the three MLB broadcasters predictions are very difficult to argue with. Last place x 3 is not an uplifting projection, and I think these guys actually know something about baseball from the inside anyway. I do not understand how the owners can possibly sell this no hope stuff to the fans that actually attend the games. Yes the stadium is nice and all, but the beer is still very expensive. My bitter musing today include (1) that we have… Read more »

The MLB pundits may be right, but these same guys picked us to win the Division in 2010:

“The National League brought about similarities of opinion, too, with Gammons, Bauman, Bodley and Duquette picking the Phillies, Cardinals and Rockies to win the East, Central and West, respectively.” That year Gammons picked us to go to the World Series.

So punditry is fraught with difficulty.

I say all this to myself to keep my unsupported optimism going into the spring.

They shouldn’t call these predictions. Guestimates would better serve here. After all, how many of them predicted the Giants to win it all? How many had the A’s in the playoffs? Predictions are based upon past records and fail to take in the unknown quotient. How could you? Crystal ball gaizing is just fodder for the masses and gamblers in the pre-season. Remember that term? If the Rox go into the season completely healthy (always a big if for any… Read more »

Couple of thoughts Sabr (based on your comments – which I really like): 1. By any realistic measure, 81-81 will be a great result for us. I dont think we can measure success in 2013 by any sort of playoff metric. Going 500 will be a great accomplishment. 2. Your point about the Dodgers is well taken – and I don’t pick them to win the division. Seems like anytime a team of stars is somewhat randomly assembled – the… Read more »

MLB’s Clubhouse Confidential covered this better than MLB 2nite.

The Clubhouse Confidential show did point out some interesting things about the 4 man rotation and 75 pitch count. Actually showed how it could work. Rockies aren’t as far off as you might think in my opinion. Key is health. Tulo/Cargo/Cuddyer/Fowler/Chacin all have to stay healthy. DLR needs to return to his old self(not that unrealistic) and Pomeranz needs to be the Pomeranz that we all thought we were getting. If those things happen(and I know those are “if’s”), the… Read more »

Yeh, SD, Cameo,

The point made on Clubhouse was that the Rox don’t have the personnel to make the 4 man work. They didn’t discount the basic philosophy.

Hey, RMH, we haven’t inquired in a while. How’s your wife’s recovery from the aneurism coming?

Wife is a walking miracle. Just about completely recovered except for speech/language therapy weekly at my house. When she talks to her Indonesian friends (her first language) it seems like she can talk to them in Indonesian without any problems. When she talks in English, she hits a brain lock over some words or objects. While I’m not the doctor, it looks like the very long term memory is ok (can speak native language) but her shorter term memory need… Read more »

Excellent news! Sounds like she is just about where my mom was after her’s. She often had trouble getting the right words, especially when she got tired. How is her math? That was increasingly difficult for her as the day wore on. Sorry for the non-baseball banter, gang, but RMH is well-liked by all on this site. No, I doubt I’ll be at Opening Day this year. I hope to catch more games in Pittsburgh, DC, etc. than I did… Read more »
