Winners of 3 in their last 10, the Colorado Rockies will look to make it 2 in a row tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix, 6:10 pm MDT. Roy Oswalt (0-5, 8.57) returns to the starting rotation against Rockies’ nemesis Wade Miley (9-10, 3.73) of the Dbacks.
Oswalt, acquired in June to stink it up before ripping his hammy in early July, has been the very definition of “big bust,” yet his pedigree demands a hard look, at least for early 2014, as the No. 5 starter slot for Colorado remains a sucking vacuum. Oswalt backed-up Chad Bettis last Sunday, blowing the rookie’s 3 frame shutout with 3-1/3 innings of 5-run/4-hit/2-walk crud slinging. Miley, a left-hander who takes great glee in tormenting the boys from Denver, hasn’t won since August 6. He went 7 Sunday in San Francisco, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, but avoiding a decision in Arizona’s 3-2 loss to the Giants.
Big Money Michael Cuddyer, who is overpaid, will hit clean-up and play right-field for the Rockies. Below Average Major Leaguer DJ LeMahieu, a poor hitter, will be at 2nd base, hitting 2nd. Matt Davidson gets the start at 3rd for Kirk Gibson and the Staff of Champions. Martin Prado moves-up to the No. 4 hole in left-field.
They’ve got the AC cranking at Chase this afternoon as 102° temperatures persist for the last week of summer in the desert. Tonight’s guess at ROoT personalities has Drew and Jeff in the booth with Jenny Cavnar patrolling the stands. Jerry and Jack have it on KOA 850 am.
