Ah, a meaningful game is being played at Coors tonight. Sure it isn’t meaningful to Rockies fans, since our “hometown heroes” haven’t seen sunshine since April, but Pirates fans sure would love to punch their ticket to the post season via RoxVille. All they have to do is what they’ve done the past two days – beat the Rox.
Which got a whole lot easier after last nights Line Drive Heard Round LoDo.
Nolan Arenado took a smoked screamer off his wrist just before taking a face plant in hot corner dirt last night in the ninth. He came out of the game (no surprise), passed a concussion test (mild surprise) and isn’t in tonights lineup (shocker..not).
Christian Bergman will be on the mound, game will be on the telly and Nolan will be on the bench…shame.
Hoping Bergman doesn’t make me look like a bigger fool than my reputation already has.
That sentence is a direct result of my researching all of Yogi’s famous quotes!
I love it!
At the game tonight last oft he 10 game mini plan. Mercifully. Lots of Bucs fans who all are pretty cheerful right now (top of the 4th).
Defensively Reyes and Descalso combined aren’t as good as Arenado is by himself .

Ok. Murphy just could be a keeper.
I’m at the game at Coors. That was a majestic HR by Murphy. Right back in the game only one run down.
Pirates do everything just a little bit better than the Rockies … and that’s more than enough
You’re being kind Sir.
Left after the 6th down one, got home and see they blew up in the 9th and are now down 6, oops 7, with only a single out. Maybe Murphy isn’t ready to call MLB games… Bucs have a nice line-up with some solid performers. I’d say more than a little bit better Agbayani, but for sure, the additive positive effect of all of the little things makes a big differnence in the end. Very sparse crowd tonight, so the… Read more »
One last point. Odd line-up. Why play Morneau instead of Paulsen at 1B? None of the kids except Murphy started, youngsters pinch hitting (which I think is really tough to do with little experience). Seems like this is truly garbage time, why not give some ABs at potential future players instead of the soon to be dearly departed?
OK, another last point. After watching for awhile now, I think Reyes is a complete turd of a player. Slow, uninspired and no punch or judy at the plate. I see absolutely no upside to keeping him around. He definitely needs to be moved in the off-season.
I’ve never liked Reyes since he said he didn’t want to play here in Denver.
If he didn’t want to play for us then the least he could have done was play well to prove he wasn’t a horrible waste of a roster space. If i was a team looking to pick up someone i’d notice that he came to Denver and proceeded to SUCK and think to myself, “huh – this guy only plays hard when he’s on a team that is doing well???” PASS…
According to the rumor I read earlier, the Yankees made an offer for Reyes right after he was acquired. Bridich passed on the offer because the Rockies weren’t happy about the prospects offered. After Reyes started playing for the Rockies, the Yankees lost all interest in him because they determined (in your words) that he sucked and they no longer wanted him. My opinion is that the Rockies should have taken any deal they were offered just to get rid… Read more »
Rocketman, I was wondering the same thing tonight. It doesn’t make sense to play Morneau over Paulsen unless: (i) the Rockies want to resign Morneau; (ii) if they play him and he plays well, maybe they get an extra draft pick if they don’t resign him; or (iii) it’s a respect thing, and when your veteran player returns after a long layoff, you give him playing time. Any thoughts?
Or iv; Manager is a dumb a**.
I’d vote for iii) the respect thing, which would be Walt’s doing, I’m sure, and also why Dickerson is playing (which is more understandable given his likely future with the club).
RocketMan – Complete turd of a player? Can’t say I disagree. Sometimes a player loses it completely in his early 30s. Reyes is a guy who actually looks worse than his stat line would suggest when you watch him every day over a couple months. Why does Walt play Morneau? I go with (iii), Julian — he feels like he owes it to Morneau, a jolly good chap who wants to show someone he can still play. Which is why… Read more »
Correction: I hadn’t bothered to look lately. Actually Reyes’ stat line kind of agrees with the Complete Turd theory. 0.6 WAR overall this year, which means that as a Rockie he’s probably been below replacement level. I get why they’re playing him instead of Adames — they’ve been hoping he’ll have a hot streak and someone out there will see a stopgap SS, superutlility man to trade for. But it ain’t happenin’.
Always the danger when a player’s primary tool is speed.
Dickerson is certainly part of the plans for next year. But I worry about the plantar fasciitis, which is why I’d think about shutting him down soon so that he doesn’t make the injury worse. I’d play Parker every day for the last 10 games, because we need to see what we have with him. He’s certainly off to a slow start and it would be good to see if he could get things going with consistent playing time. I… Read more »
