Rox Stumbles into Pittsburgh

Since doing an admirable feat splitting the four game series just before the break in Los Angeles, the Rockies have stepped into the quicksand and by most accounts have suffocated to death in the quicksand. After struggling to a poor 5-5 home stand against three teams with the worst records in the NL, they began the road trip with a loud thump losing all four games in Atlanta. It doesn’t get any easier in Pittsburgh who have just beaten St. Louis four out of five.

There are numerous reasons for the slump. The biggest reason is both Tulo and William have yet to warm up since coming off the DL when they are traditionally outstanding second half players. Throw in CarGo’s stubborn right middle finger sprain to add to the struggles of the team. Money is still out of town tending to his family issue. The shoes of the corner outfielders are just too big for Charlie Blackmon and Corey Dickinson to fill.

With the stout Pirate pitching staff on the mound for the three game series at PNC Park, the hitters are expected to continue to struggle. Once again I am calling eight runs or less total for this Pittsburgh series. Hence the Rox will continue to tumble. Might as well take tumbling lessons to enjoy the exercise. Jhoulys Chacin is excused from this P.E. class as he needs to stand upright and throw a shutout for the Rockies to even sniff a victory.

Jonathan Gray: superb hi A ball debut. 5 IP (I assume he’s done for the night), 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K. Keep it up and we’ll see you at Coors next June!

Everybody needs to thank me tonight. I was unable to watch the game and guess what the Rockies won!! Your welcome. I see Weiss pulled Chacin after 8 innings but only 96 pitches. Come on Walt, be a man. Saw a quote from Brothers that because he had a three run he was just letting them hit it. Not sure if that was a plan or a good excuse. By the way just saw a “breaking story” on Channel 4… Read more »
