Rox v Giant’s Rubbermatch

The Rockies will get their third day off in the month tomorrow, but not before trying to take the series against Madison Bumgarner (tee hee hee) and the rest of the San Fran Giants.

The Rockies dropped the second game of this series and homestand 5-3 last night.  Chad Bettis took the loss by allowing 4 runs, all earned, over 6.0 innings. Bettis allowed 3 runs in the first, then just one over run the next 5.0 innings to keep
the game tight, but the Rockies rally fell short despite a 3-hit night from Wilin Rosario.  They enter tonight’s game having won eight of their last 11 home games, since 7/26

Colorado is 31-26 against the NL West this season, including 20-11 against their division rivals here at Coors Field.

• RHP Jhoulys Chacin will make his 26th start of the season tonight. Chacin is 7-3 with a 4.00 ERA (92.1 ip, 41 er) in 14 starts at Coors Field this season.  This will be his 12th career start and 13th career appearance against the Giants, against whom he is 4-5 with a 3.95 ERA (66.0 ip, 29 er).  Chacin enters tonight’s start having already set a career-high in wins this season with 12, and he currently owns the lowest ERA of his career, at 3.22 (162.1 ip, 58 er). Chacin has allowed more than 3 earned runs just once in his last 14 starts, since 6/11.  Since that date, Chacin owns the Majors 5th-lowest ERA, with a mark of 2.26 (95.2 ip, 24 er). His 95.2 innings pitched since 6/11 is the 6th-most in the NL as well. Chacin’s 9 victories since 6/11 are the 2nd-most in the NL, as only Zack Greinke (10 wins) has more.

• LHP Madison Bumgarner (tee hee hee) will make his 27th start of 2013 tonight.  The 2013 All-Star is 7-4 with a 3.17 ERA (88.0 ip, 31 er) in 14 road starts this season.  He is 7-4 with a 2.96 ERA (85.0 ip, 28 er) in 14 career starts against the Rockies.

What do Wilon Rosario and michael Jackson have in common? They both wear a glove on their left hand for no apparent reason.

Sorry, old joke, but I could not resist.

I’ve be yelling all year for Rosario to play 1st. Maybe Rockies should move to AL and he can become a DH

Well pitched JC!

He pitched great. Bullpen looks like they are gonna blow it. Tomorrow is an off-day, why not bring Beslile in to start the 8th. Instead he comes in with the tying run and Buster Posey at the plate. Walt’s use and misuse of the bullpen has been his biggest problem all year.

Chacin and DLR have been really good and about all one could ask for.Chatwood when healthy was looking like an Ace in the making and Nicascio may have turned the corner. The remaining starters have been a sucking chest wound! BUT the”evil empire West”in LA just threw their 19th-THATS NINETEENTH!-shutout of the season and 3rd in the past week. With a good fifth starter and a healthy Tulo/Cargo[as if that would ever happen} we’d still be lucky to be in the wild… Read more »

I can’t watch preseason football. I try, but I just can’t make it past the first quarter. So I check in on minor league baseball. Sean Gallagher, once a really good prospect the Rockies are trying to reclaim, has looked o.k. Not tonight. Check out this line for the Sky Sox: 4 IP, 14 hits (!), 10 R, 10 ER, 3 HR. There goes that nice ERA. Tulsa: Danny “the Fonz” Winkler: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 6 K,… Read more »
