Rox v Reds – Maybe a New Start to the 2nd Half?

Well after a disastrous series with Texas (they really struggle with Texas, especially against Harrison). The middle game was an example of the reason this team has failed (well, the fact that most of their prospect pitching prospects and the giant sucking hole that is Kyle Kendrick 2 out of 3 outings). But what about the rest of the season? Well, the question remains…do they trade CarGo (no if they think they have a chance next year…and anyways, off-season deals are more lucrative usually), or Tulo (again, unless you get Matt Harvey, not going to happen), or their younger talent who remains under control but with talent coming behind it.

But for now, we get to see the battle of two clubs that are both not where they hoped to be. The Reds are definitely going to reorganize their management. The Rox? Is Weiss done? Is he managing for his job? The Rox are actually following the same path as the Astros, but sadly their top talent has faced injury issues. But, I await to see what happens with their development. It seems that Bridich is more aggressive with talent than O’Dowd. I think, assuming he doesn’t face huge issues, their top pick Brendan Rogers will be in full season A ball next year. We may well see a number of guys going from Modesto to AA New Britain, guys like Tapia and Patterson. And then there is a guy named Gray.

Anyways, Dickerson is back. Brothers is where he can do no harm with his outside pitches. We focus on what happened to Matzek but the story of Brothers is almost as sad. Do you remember that first half of 2013? That is the man who the Rox needed. They could use a home-grown, power lefty closer under team control. But…back to New Mexico.

Here is the lineups. Finally got my computer so I can actually write up the post-game as well. Still fighting ASUS. But they have lawyers and I just have facebook.

Tonight’s starter is the artist formerly known as highly valued prospect Eddie Butler. Over under on walks and hit-bats? I say 4. Oh, this is what we are left to do now.

Oh, and probably the two best 3B playing today…but we need to get the “ToddFather” named ripped off Frazier. When he has 2500 hits, he can be that.

Reds Position Rox Position
Phillips 2B Blackmon CF
Votto 1B DJ 2B
Frazier 3B Tulo SS
Bruce RF CarGo RF
Byrd LF Arenado 3B
De Jesus SS Dickerson LF
Barnhart C Paulsen 1B
DeSclafani P Hundley C
Hamilton CF Butler P

Under the radar: Rox awarded a competitive balance draft pick next year. So the way things are going, we’ll have something like the 3rd pick, the 34th pick, and then 39th pick. Roughly 3 picks in the top 40. Dr. C., as you mention, maybe this is closer to the Astros than we realize. Probably closer to the Royals, who never really did the total fire sale, kind of sputtering along like our Rockies while stockpiling minor league talent. Hey,… Read more »

Next year’s amateur draft currently projects to be quite a bit stronger than this years’. So 3 in top 40 could be more significant than this year.

Tulo got bailed out in the ninth. Dude was about to leave his 4th or 5th lob.

Last season we had a list of the five worst plays of 2014. I don’t know what will end up on this year’s list but the TOOTBLAN by Butler most certainly will be there.

I was out most of the night. Listened to a few innings coming home on the radio and heard Cargo’s first HR and an inning or so more. Got home to watch Cargo’s 2nd HR and then Axelrod blowing another save. Blackmon’s run in the 9th was a thing of beauty, seen far few times this year. But we all know that the Rockies are going any place this year and most likely for at least two or three years… Read more »
