Rox Vs. Giants @ Coors Field in Game 39

Well the good news is that the Rockies have been winning a bit more of late. They even scored 7 runs vs. the Phils on Thursday. I mean 7 runs at Coors. Have you ever? I haven’t this season. As I said last Tuesday the Rockies have committed the greatest sin in sports, they are lousy and they are boring.

But we are about to turn to June, the weather may start getting sunny, and even better, the Rox are playing the Giants, and any chance to try and beat the Giants makes me excited. Besides they are facing Ryan Volgelson, and with that being the case…maybe they can score a few runs and make the Friday commute home past Coors Field worthwhile.

I’m not surprised Madison Bumgarner is two-hitting the Rox. Oh wait…….it’s Ryan Vogelsong. Nevermind.

Funny thing………Ryan Vogelsong was a FA this last offseason, and waited around a long time before signing.

At least Cargo is beginning to have some good “takes” and Tulo is hustling to make some of his ground into double plays close.

On a serious note – I like Spilly. He’s come really close to saying the Rox suck several times. Probably only a quick shock from the ROOT/Monfart collar concealed underneath his shirt saved him.

I think Spilly is very entertaining and is the only one of the younger Root guys to approach the status of a legitimate “color” guy. I much prefer him to Jeff Huson, who is knowledgeble enough, but pretty bland.

The string of decent bullpen efforts is over. Roberts is throwing BP.

Tulo is starting to look like Cargo did a couple of weeks ago. Mostly all pull, no power, can’t get it out of the infield, lots of GiDPs, lots of 0-2 and 1-2 counts. Cargo is at least walking every once in a while.

Are Axford and Betty overworked[LOL].Why not throw them out there more often?

Giving up 4 runs in the top of the 9th is just inexcusable.

And how come hitters from other teams always get better as the innings go by and our guys get worse?

Meant to put my comment above under this thread.Grasping at straws here, but the comeback in late innings was a sign of not quitting.Almost all runs fueled by hungry new guys and our only all star D.J.

Funny that you note that about DJ Gary. I have DJ and NoDo on my fantasy team in the really competitive, advanced league. The offensive categories are BA, OBP, R, HR, RBI, and SB. DJ moved passed NoDo last night in the real time overall player rankings (DJ is #147 overall, NoDo #153). For comparison, Tulo is in the 260’s after last night. Of course this doesn’t consider defensive metrics – which would no doubt move DJ and NoDo (considerably)… Read more »

Arenado is doing too much first pitch swinging and making useless outs. Tulo is taking more pitches, but also making useless outs. THere’s been lots of line-up variations 2 through 6. I will say none have impressed, and there’s precious few guys on-base from those positions. For sure I don’t see anyone on the team as a legitimated clean-up guy, although there’s not been much to clean up. My unqualified perception is that Tulo isn’t getting to as many balls… Read more »

In my opinion – Tulo can still be an all-star in the correct situation. The correct situation is an AL team that can play him in the field 4 days a week and DH 2 days a week. Contrary to what some think….the Yankees do have the minor leaguers it would take to get Tulo. Interesting (and sad) thing about the Mets. David Wright has been diagnosed with spinal stenosis. I’ve always been a Wright fan…..seems like a class act… Read more »

You think Tulo would be a good DH? He’s a terrible PH. Given his lack of pressure situation results, I’d think AL teams wouldn’t see a lot of potential for that role.

Very proud of the way Tulo is handling himself these days…..NOT.

Should have traded him weeks ago. His stock goes down every day he’s out there. DPs, Ks, pop outs with runners on.

When was the last time Tulo had more than 1 RBI in a game?

Prog, I think Tulo knocked in two on Thursday, but in general your point is a good one. On bullpen use: time to retire the “overworked pen” theme for now. We will be 1/4 of the way through the season by the end of the weekend. Our relievers have thrown: 9 innings (Axford; I do realize he missed some time), 16 innings (Logan, Betancourt), 20 (Friedrich, who’s been pressed into a couple longer outings by bad starters). You know who’s… Read more »

I looked it up on baseball-ref after I posted. He has I believe three 2 RBI games this year. No 3 RBI games unless I overlooked it.
