2:10 pm MDT start time; no TV
Final 25-man roster to be made possibly by mid-week, after Wednesday’s game with the off day Thursday?
Kerosene starting; he better have a good game as Brothers and Kahnle are the only available quality relievers today. All other pitchers are farmhands.
Boone Logan held back from MLB spring training games since his lone appearance last week to give Rox flexibility of starting season with Logan on the DL retroactive to last ST game on March 20th. If so, he would be eligible to come off the DL on April 5th during the opening series vs. Arizona at the earliest. I think the writing is on the wall that Kahnle will make the team and give Rox more time to think about how the bullpen will shake out. It’s possible that both Bettis and Kahnle will make the squad if Logan starts on DL. That is if they don’t choose Lyles over Morales and move Kerosene to the pen.
Just announced via Twitter that Troy Renck is “leaving” the Rockies and will start covering the Broncos instead. I wonder if Troy wanted out the same way Jim Tracy did? One more argument for you Ag giving reasons why the Geivett/DOD combo is a dysfunctional family.
Wow, that is surprising. He has quite the name with the media when it comes to the team.
the fact that Tulo only has four hits and three of those are HR’s means he is still reaching for the fence every time…
Should never have made him a clean up hitter. Remember when he batted 2nd or 7th? He was a more complete hitter then, IMO.
Yeah let’s bat Tulo 7th. That makes sense.
2nd would work better than 4th. The point is, swinging for the fences has never suited Tulo. His power is natural and doesn’t need to be forced. When he forces it, he becomes POFO Tulo.
wow, i do believe this conversation thread is the lowest rated in terms of stars in the history of RWO 🙂
Strong outing by Frankie…
5.0ip, 3h, 1r, 0er, 1bb, 7k’s, 0hr, ERA: 2.21
The 0 ER’s is nice, the 1 BB is also very nice. It is the 7 K’s i like to see…Frankie is showing that maybe he is suited for the 5th spot…
Just saw this line on TV – pleasantly surprised … er, shocked? What if Frankie has finally pulled it together?!? Like I said recently, he’s keeping me on board (when I thought I quit him quite awhile back).
The Rockies definitely should keep Kahnle and not give him back to the Yankees.
Is Blackmon’s weak spring at bat going to cause him to start the year at CS?
Pacheco is hitting well. Does he win the job as the backup catcher?
Jaredean…..with exactly a week remaining before the season kicks off in Miami – it might be fun to have a dedicated “season prediction thread” where our pre-season predictions can be stored and shamelessly ridiculed as the season progresses.
Love it! I’ll put something up…I believe i did that in the past and will look to see if we have it somewhere…I think it was a poll or something like that…
Ok my friend, your wish is my command.
Finally made it to Arizona and made it to this one. Impressions: Tulo: Gotta disagree about the assessments here. He’s in the groove, one of those hot streaks we’ve enjoyed over the last few years, squaring up everything. HR to left and a couple long drives to right/center hit right at guys. No need to worry about him being ready. Frankie: erratic at the start, settled in nicely. Not throwing as hard as he used to, about 91-92, but better… Read more »

I usually don’t like Kiz but I was glad to hear from another person that the Rox brass may not be a dysfunctional family after all (except for the who really runs the organization question). Basically Kiz says WW wants players with grit who roll up their sleeves and play with fire. In Dex’ example, Kiz was saying that while he was a great guy with speed , he can’t figure out how to steal bases. Then Kiz compares him… Read more »
The way that I read the article, my impression is that the reporter was simply toeing the company line and just publishing what upper management wanted conveyed. I really do not believe that WW has the power that is implied in the article. One of the reasons that WW was hired was because upper management can control him. The main reason that Fowler was traded to Houston was to punish him by putting him on a team with little to… Read more »
Obviously Kiz was right about Charlie Monfort’s drinking problem so I’ll assume he has inside info on Weiss vs Dex. Still, I’m not getting it. I guess the idea is that Fowler wasn’t bothered by losing. Guys react to losing in different ways. Iannetta got the same rap. I’m not sold on that theory. Was the Rockies 2009 team with Iannetta catching better than the 2010-13 editions? Tougher? More able to “fight” the Dodgers? What bothers me is this: Kiz… Read more »
I read a sentence somewhere in the Fowler comments article that Geivett is responsible for the big league club while DOD is responsible for the farmhands. My guess is that they didn’t tell/show the players the organization charts and how it should be run. Now that I know, if I am a Rox player I go to Geivett to talk about issues regarding the big league club. What happens, happens from the front office. I don’t care how they go… Read more »
RMH,
I may be wrong, and I apologize if I am, but from the sound of your recent comments it appears that you’ve taken a sip of the purple Kool-Aid being dished out at 20th & Blake.
The purple Kool Aid tasted really good; I’m so ready to hear the words, “Plaaaaay Baaaalll.”
Joking aside, I can play Rox fan swimming in the purple bath once in a while, can’t I? Other times when it’s time for me to do some RWO reporting, I try to step outside the Purple Box and do journalism in a neutral manner.
Love the RWO site, a nice mixture of pessimists and optimists sharing the same passion.
Lotsa good comments. I’m pullin’ 4 Dickerson to start. The guy was rakin’ the past two seasons in CS and should get a good chance to show the same at Coors Field On a slightly different note, Rocky Mountain SABR has a great luncheon coming up 4/19, check this out: Larry Bowa the longtime shortstop, coach and manager of the Philadelphia Phillies will be speaking at our Rocky Mountain SABR- Luncheon/Chapter Meeting on April 19. Please join us in hosting… Read more »
