Before Sunday’s game the players were called into a brief meeting with assistant “GM” Bill Geivett. The outcome was more of the same: decent play, sabotaged by a bullpen that has been worked harder than a pair of EYj cleats.
The Rockies return home to Coors after almost winning their first road trip of the season, another horrible statistic to pin on the lapels of the upper echelon who believe that thinking outside of the box means calling the box broken, even though history proves the box works.
…digress…
The Brewers will be in town for the first three of a seven game home stint that will end with four against the Marlins. The Rockies are only three games into their 20 game without a break stretch.

In other news: Jhoulys Chacin will make one more rehab start with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Thursday. Will join rotation next week in NY.
Glad to see Chacin back. His return to form is absolutely critical for how we gauge 2013. If Chacin is the 2011 guy — he doesn’t even have to be as good as the first half of 2011 guy, just close — and if De La Rosa is actually finally showing signs of returning to form next year, then we’ve immediately made a huge upgrade to our starting pitching without even getting to signing free agents or making trades. Oo oo oo Ag! Touche! Now please put the knife away.
Couple of serious points here. As Jaredean mentioned recently, there is a school of thought that says never call a player out publicly. Probably the right policy 97% of the time (rarely there’s some a’hole you can’t get through to except through public embarassment). Problem is guys like us pick-up in that stuff, + as they say it goes “viral,” + sticks with a guy for a long time, deserved or not. Like it or not, players have enormous, fragile… Read more »
I thought Nicasio had micro-fracture procedure on his knee which seems more than a tweak. And with Chacin, still have my doubts about his head. The mysterious nerve problem didn’t surface until he was about to ship out to CS. I hope he does well so we can actually get value for him in a trade.
Oh no, not down-playing it. Just like at the time it happened I figured he wouldn’t even miss a start. Wrong.
Is JT punishing Ruttledge for losing that popup in the sun yesterday?
Rutledge pulled a quad. According to Drew + Jeff he did everything right on that play (flip-down sunglasses, etc). Just one of those where it’s right on-axis with the sun.
I don’t understand the “since we called him up he’s going to play every game.”
Yeah, Rutledge was playing awesome. Did he need to play 22 of 23 games?
He is getting it don

Wtf voice text. NEVERMIND!
welcome to the show, Harris.
Is Geivett behind the increased playing time for LeMahieu? If so, I like it. After tonight’s game (4 hits, 2 RBI), we have a 3-headed monster of mediocrity at 3B. Here they are, ranked by OPS and Runs Created + (an average hitter is 100 on that scale, the higher the better; note that the higher OPS isn’t necessarily the better RC+ since they weight things differently, but it’s close): Pacheco: 738 OPS, 90 RC+ Nelson: 748, 88 RC+ LeMahieu:… Read more »
Wow,I thought it was just me who had never heard of him.
You’re not alone guys. I never heard of him either.
Quite possibly the best played game of the year and i just finished it (had family stuff until quite late)…excellent work all around, but too tired and not feeling well so no post-game…but, what i loved was how we just kept hitting – none of this 3 runs early and then go cold…love EYj staying hot, love DJ staying hot (surprising to me) and really love the pitching (welcome to the bigs Harris, try to keep the ball in the… Read more »
Jared, I’ll pick it up with an early pregame.
Just a quick note of support for you guys. It’s easy to write up these games when the team is playing well and there’s lots of wins and good things to write about. I’m sure it gets to be a chore after all these losses in a totally lost season. I’m sure some nights it becomes “Why bother?”. We are lucky to have you two handling this, and the writing has improved as the season has gone on. Very good… Read more »
Yes, much appreciated Jared and Jeem. I might have slit my wrists if not for this site.
Thanks to both you guys. Hey Bob, what the magic number now?
Thanks Bob and Doc! I know that I would have killed to have this site back in ’07 becuase I didn’t sleep the 2nd half of that season…i’d watch the games well into the night, rewind and watch key moments and then the next day at work i’d tell everyone what happened…people were very tired of hearing it! If i’d made this site then the pre/post game would be 3 time as long, if not longer, because it would have… Read more »
