Jhoulys Chacin will take the mound today against the Texas Rangers and one of the top prospects entering the 2012 season, Yu Darvish. Darvish, who last pitched Sunday, allowed four runs on six hits with two walks and – get this – 11 strikeouts. This will be the Rockies first time facing him and we can only hope Chacin will find his control that has been missing most of Spring Training.
The game can be seen on MLBtv for those of you with a subscription.
I’ll post the line-ups when they are announced later in the day. I am also testing out a new “chat” program, hoping to find one that works well on the site. Please come by and say, “hi” either on the site or on your phone/tablet.
Wish I could see this one. On the roster thing: let me be the only guy to put in a word for Andrew Brown as the 25th man. He’s been flying under the radar, but he’s had a tremendous spring. More importantly, he’s a righthanded bat with some pop, coming off consecutive minor league seasons with 20+ HRs. And that was in fairly neutral ballparks — we’re not looking at grossly inflated Sky Sox numbers. He’s always been a fringey… Read more »
Agbayani, I too like Brown and would like to think he has a chance to stick, but I don’t think so. Your analysis is exactly right. Another guy I like to the utility role is Brendan Harris, but I think he has no chance even though he has had a decent spring.
You guys like how I Photoshopped Yu’s baseball above? It was coming out of his hand at a slightly higher angle, so when I cropped the picture you couldn’t see it. So, I’ve moved it down and then crop the picture. Pretty sick skills, don’t you think? 🙂
Brown has done well so far, but do you think maybe it’s because he’s meeting AA pitching when he finally comes to bat?
LOL hate photoshop unless its to be funny. Saw that card companies photoshop new uniforms onto players after they have been traded because there aren’t new in-action photos in time for the printing. As a kid when I was collecting cards I’d rather have a card of Peyton’s press conference holding the Broncos jersey than some altered photo.
Heard that an upcoming action card for Peyton in a Broncos’ jersey seems to show Orton’s face. That’s just wrong on so many levels.
Lots and lots of fringe players. Its like, how do you choose between them all? Does having 4 or 5 OFs that are decent but none that can distinguish themselves really do anything at all? What about 3Bs or 2Bs or UTs?
The musical chair game with mediocre players is a bummer.
If Ian Stewart was playing 3rd base the Rockies would have won last night. No way the ball that got past Pacheco gets by Stewart.
Wow, Jaredean, that photoshop job fooled me … you are getting scary good at this stuff. Yeah, they’re all mediocre players (replacement level to stat-heads), but that’s why they’re filling out the 24th and 25th man slots on the roster. The problem is we’re stuck with that kind of player as a starter at 3B now. And what I really don’t want to see is a lefty pitching on a Sunday afternoon with Helton sitting, Nelson at 3B, and Pacheco… Read more »
yikes cargo and tulo 3 ks each.
Yu Darvish is the real deal, he made Tulo and Cargo look like Little Leaguers.
At least Giambi made Darvish look like a Little Leaguer.
